Assessment of Ebola virus disease preparedness in the WHO South-East Asia Region

Abstract
Introduction The 2013-2016 Ebola virus disease epidemic in West Africa was the largest ever reported, with 28616 cases and 11 310 deaths as of June 2016. (1) In August 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the epidemic a public health emergency of international concern, in accordance with the 2005 International Health Regulations (IHR). (2) In January 2015, nine of the 11 countries from the WHO South-East Asia Region agreed to a joint assessment by WHO and ministries of health of their preparedness and operational readiness for Ebola virus disease.
