Review of Lilia M. Schwarcz, Heloisa M. Starling, A bailarina da morte. A gripe espanhola no Brasil, São Paulo, Companhia das Letras (2020)
Partindo do surgimento da gripe espanhola na Europa, no contexto da I Guerra Mundial, as autoras refazem a viagem do vírus até os portos brasileiros e seu desembarque em várias capitais do país, dando especial atenção às reações das autoridades públicas ao perigo sanitário e às condições de vida das populações atingidas. Além de exercício historiográfico competente e minucioso, a reconstituição da epidemia do início do século XX é estratégica para iluminar dimensões da crise sanitária provocada pelo novo coronavírus no Brasil.
