Perception of Covid-19 Pandemic on Higher Education Students and Efficiency of Distance Learning During Pandemic

Abstract

Compared to other countries, the novel coronavirus has arrived Turkey later but spread all around the country in a short time and effected the social and economic life negatively. After the first diagnosis of coronavirus case, although many activities have been canceled, many businesses and shopping malls have been closed, curfews have been announced on certain days for certain age groups and metropolitan areas, the first action to prevent the pandemic was to close the schools and switch to distance learning. In this study, the perception of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on higher education students and the efficiency of distance learning are investigated. A questionnaire was prepared and delivered to higher education students. As a result of the analyses carried out, it is observed that the higher education students agree with the decision of shutting the schools down, follow the precaution rules against pandemic, they have a high level of trust in the government and the health system regarding public health, and evaluate the distance learning’ effectiveness at a medium level.
