France in the face of COVID-19: From lockdown to crises and responses for the future

Abstract

Rapport Flash de l'European social policy network. European commission; In response to intense pressure on the hospital system, the government imposed a strict lockdown on French households between 16 March and 11 May. Numerous financial packages, extensive usage by employers of the temporary termination of employees' obligation to work, and teleworking largely succeeded in maintaining jobs and guaranteeing income. Since 11 May, the country has started to move out of lockdown and a new landscape is taking shape, featuring economic and social crises.
