    Background During lockdown parents who have children suffering with life- limiting illness or who experienced grief had considerably reduced access to professionals and face-to-face working. Hospices were challenged to adapt a new way of working. Momentous events that so fundamentally impact our entire society lead us to re-examine our belief structures and ways of working. Aim To provide parents with the tools to enable them to feel more in control when everything else seems without control. To help create emotional openings, paths to their child’s world. Methods Parents were asked to attend a block of 10 online sessions to help them strengthen the relationship by using 30-minutes structured playtime once a week, using a kit of carefully selected toys in their own home. Parents were provided with the guidance to help build the child’s self-esteem, help the child learn self-control and responsibility. Providing dialogue, the parents were empowered to be a therapeutic agent of change for their child. Results Written and verbal feedback indicated that parents felt more equipped to support and improve their parent/child relationship. The results support that the benefits of Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) may extend to the family system. They became more in control and prepared for the future on how to support their children. The parents valued flexibility in the approach. Conclusions Our daily practices feel right and true to us, regardless of whether they have evolved to keep up with the pace of change. To initiate a new approach to current conditions, based on our experiences of COVID-19 and re-direction of support has been highly valued by patients and their families. However, they are not about making incremental changes that lead to new ways of doing things based on old beliefs. They are geared instead toward causing a total shift of perceptions, beliefs and thought process.

    This study sought to investigate wellbeing through the lens of people who have experienced the impacts of Covid-19 while working in an industry that was impacted severely by the effects of the pandemic. Study findings reveal the important and rather neglected role of the “sense of freedom” while examining, evaluating and fostering the wellbeing of individuals. This outcome has both societal, and tourism managerial implications.

    In a short time, technology has profoundly changed the ways in which we communicate. Especially since the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis, remote communication has seen a massive increase in all contexts. In dialogue interpreting settings, the use of remote interpreting (RI) by telephone and video link increases accessibility of public services to non-native speakers. Assessing its efficiency is therefore essential to ensure inclusion of all citizens. When communication is mediated by an interpreter by means of RI, this adds up to the already complex character of the communicative event. Since the interpreter takes a turn at talk after each primary participant’s turn, interactional issues, such as overlapping speech, are likely to have an even stronger disruptive effect on the communication than is the case in monolingual events. Evidence-based research on RI indicates that such disruptions are primarily related to the reduced possibility for synchronization of interaction (Wadensjö, 1999). Recent research focusing specifically on interaction management (Davitti, 2018; De Boe, 2020; Vranjes & Brône, 2020) suggests that in remote dialogue interpreting, smoothness of interaction is affected. This is mostly due to reduced visual access, which impinges on the use of nonverbal resources (such as gaze and gesture) to manage the conversational flow. These outcomes call for a more granular, micro-analytical investigation of the ways in which interaction management is accomplished in RI. Since smoothness is a decisive factor in participants’ satisfaction with communication, it is of vital importance to further investigate which factors contribute to realising fluent interaction management, as well as the role of visual access in these dynamics. Therefore, this panel invites evidence-based research contributions aimed at examining interaction management (turn transitions, negotiation of meaning, repair, backchannelling behaviour, a.o.) in RI by telephone and video link. We strongly encourage micro-analytical approaches, based on data derived from authentic as well as experimental settings (including simulations and eye-tracking experiments), in various contexts of spoken language remote dialogue interpreting. In sum, empirically grounded insights from these studies will make a contribution to the burgeoning research on the complex conversational dynamics of remote dialogue interpreting.     Background Timely post-discharge follow-up ensures safe inpatient/outpatient care transitions. Minimizing messaging to facilitate transitions is critical to staff well-being. Objectives Improve the proportion of outpatient dermatology appointment scheduled within 2 weeks post-discharge to >90%; decrease staff messaging facilitating scheduling by >25%. Methods Through process mapping dermatology care transitions (figure 1) we identified barriers to timely scheduling. We assessed impact of two interventions on post-discharge scheduling: video visits (VVs) initiated (March 2020) in response to COVID-19 and SmartPhrase intervention initiated (April 2021) in response to perceived high staff messaging rates (figure 2). We tracked time from discharge to scheduling of post-discharge appointment, percentage of patients scheduled ≤2 weeks, and staff messaging from Jan 2019 through May 2021. Satisfaction was evaluated via stakeholder interviews. Results Post-discharge VVs increased from 0% to 64% following adoption of telemedicine. The average number of days to schedule these improved from 31 days without VVs to 11 days with VVs; additional adoption of the SmartPhrase further reduced it to 6 days (figure 3). The percent of patients scheduled within 2 weeks improved from 79% without VVs to 82% with VVs, and then to 90% with SmartPhrase adoption (figure 4). Compared to scheduling rates prior to implementation of both interventions, the combination of VVs and SmartPhrase saved 72 discharged dermatology patients approximately 1824 days of wait-time in post-discharge appointment scheduling. Messaging has not yet decreased significantly, but longer follow-up is needed to assess whether messaging rates changed post-SmartPhrase implementation (figure 5). Early qualitative findings suggest overall satisfaction with VVs and the SmartPhrase workflow. Conclusions Early data suggest decreased time to post-discharge scheduling and increased percentage scheduled within two weeks post-VV implementation, and further improvement post-SmartPhrases. Staff messages did not decrease significantly; we plan to track messaging rates through August to fully assess SmartPhrase impact.

    Introduction: COVID-19 affects several vital organs, including the brain, and can cause neurological manifestations. Objective: To characterize the neurological manifestations of hospitalized patients with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19, between May and August, 2020. Design and setting: Observational study at Veredas Hospital and University Hospital Professor Alberto Antunes in Alagoas, Brazil. Methods: Socio-demographic data, infectious and neurological symptoms, risk factors for neurological and infectious diseases, clinical history, treatment instituted and outcome of patients were collected. Results: We included 30 patients with a mean age of 61.05 ± 18.65 years, 70% were female. The average between the onset of COVID-19 symptoms and hospital admission was 10 ± 9.7 days. Systemic arterial hypertension (66.7%) and diabetes mellitus (63.3%) were the main comorbidities. Cough, fever (60%) and dyspnea (56.7%) stood out in general symptoms. The most frequent neurological symptoms were changes in the level of consciousness (56.7%), epileptic seizures (33.3%) and motor deficits (23.3%). Ischemic stroke (40%) was the main neurological diagnosis, followed by epileptic seizures (33.3%), delirium (13.3%), encephalitis (10%), SAH (6.6%), vasculitis (6, 6%), hemorrhagic stroke, TIA, cranial neuropathy, meningitis and peripheral neuropathy (3.3% each). Regarding treatment, 100% used antibiotic therapy, 96.7% prophylactic heparin, 50% mechanical ventilation, 46.7% antiparasitic, 20% vasoactive drugs and 6.7% hydroxychloroquine. The death rate was 40%. Conclusions: Neurological manifestations by patients with COVID-19 are not uncommon, presenting in different ways, and can be potentially fatal. The main neurological symptom was changes in the level of consciousness and diagnosis, ischemic stroke.

    In the field of teaching architecture and design, workshops are usually the space where all the learning and knowledge of a study plan converge. In this case, the didactic instrumentation established in the study plan of the Faculty of Architecture of the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo considers within the semester planning the realization of a quick exercise, which has the purpose of recreating a design work under conditions pragmatics of disciplinary knowledge. Posing from a theoretical-practical approach to solve a problem connected with a certain reality, in this case the design of the habitat in indigenous communities, under circumstances of collaboration between students organized in teams made up of participants of various training levels, in this approach in a context working online due to the confinement imposed by the health emergency measures derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. En el campo de la enseñanza de la arquitectura y el diseño, normalmente los talleres son el espacio donde confluyen todos los aprendizajes y saberes de un plan de estudios. En este caso la instrumentación didáctica establecida en el plan de estudios de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo considera dentro la planeación semestral la realización de un ejercicio rápido, que tiene la finalidad de recrear un trabajo de diseño bajo condiciones pragmáticas del conocimiento disciplinar. Planteando desde un enfoque teórico-práctico resolver un problema conectado con una determinada realidad, en este caso el diseño del hábitat en comunidades indígenas, bajo circunstancias de colaboración entre estudiantes organizados en equipos conformados con participantes de varios niveles formativos, en este planteamiento en un contexto de trabajo en línea debido al confinamiento que imponen las medidas de la emergencia sanitarias derivada de la pandemia por COVID-19.     The global pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) changes the lives of many people all over the world. In the context of stationary retail, a strong change of customer behavior occurs as mandatory safety measures like wearing facemasks and distance regulations have come into place. The sales personnel’s ability to understand and react to customers’ emotions is critical for service interactions and the customers’ overall satisfaction. Unfortunately, facemasks make it difficult to recognize other’s emotions and may lead to misinterpretation and confusion. To address this problem, this paper proposes the design of self-assessment interfaces that offer the customer an easy way to enter their emotions. As part of a Design Science Research (DSR) project, we designed three interfaces and evaluated them over the course of a design cycle. The results indicate that it is possible to use self-assessment technology in stationary retail to measure customer emotions.

    Background CD73 is present on subsets of B and T cells and is involved in lymphocyte activation. CPI-006 is a humanized IgG1, Fcγ receptor deficient anti-CD73 that has agonistic properties. In vitro studies and ongoing cancer clinical trials show that CPI-006 binds to B cells leading to expression of CD69, trafficking to lymph nodes, immunoglobulin class switching, transformation to plasmablasts and generation of memory B cells.1 Recently, a patient in the cancer trial with asymptomatic COVID-19 developed high titers of neutralizing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies following administration of CPI-006. A phase 1 trial in COVID-19 was initiated to evaluate the use of CPI-006 to enhance anti-viral immune response (NCT04464395). Methods Single intravenous dose escalation with N=5 per cohort of 0.3, 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 mg/kg. Pt eligibility included PCR positive nasal swab for COVID-19; hospitalized with O2 saturation of ≥92% on Results 10 pts have been treated in the first 2 cohorts; median age 64 (range 28–76) and all had comorbidities: diabetes (4), hypertension (2), obesity (7) and/or cancer (2). Median duration of symptoms prior to CPI-006 was 8 days (range 1–21 days). No treatment-related adverse events were reported. There was no correlation between duration of symptoms and baseline anti-viral titers. Kinetics of anti-SARS-CoV-2 response to spike protein are shown for 7 pts with follow-up ≥ 7 days post CPI-006 (figure 1). One pt with lymphopenia (600/mm3) had delayed response to CPI-006; all other pts generated antibody response by Day 7 post-CPI-006 to both spike and RBD. Increasing titers of IgG and IgM antibodies were observed out to 28 days post treatment. In one pt examined, memory B cells increased from 1.81% to 4.83% of B cells 28 days after treatment with serum IgG titers to spike and to RBD of >1:50,000. 2 of 2 pts had increase in both CD4 and CD8 T effector memory cells at day 28. All pts were discharged (median 4 days) with clinical improvement. Conclusions CPI-006 is well tolerated in COVID-19 pts. Low baseline titers of antibodies to virus were increased following CPI-006 in all treated pts. Immunomodulation with CPI-006 represents a novel therapy for COVID-19 aimed at stimulating more robust and prolonged anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunity potentially after infection or with vaccination.     With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the political and the medical aspects of disinformation merged as the problem got elevated to a whole new level to become the first global infodemic. Fighting this infodemic has been declared one of the most important focus areas of the World Health Organization, with dangers ranging from promoting fake cures, rumors, and conspiracy theories to spreading xenophobia and panic. Addressing the issue requires solving a number of challenging problems such as identifying messages containing claims, determining their check-worthiness and factuality, and their potential to do harm as well as the nature of that harm, to mention just a few. To address this gap, we release a large dataset of 16K manually annotated tweets for fine-grained disinformation analysis that (i) focuses on COVID-19, (ii) combines the perspectives and the interests of journalists, fact-checkers, social media platforms, policy makers, and society, and (iii) covers Arabic, Bulgarian, Dutch, and English. Finally, we show strong evaluation results using pretrained Transformers, thus confirming the practical utility of the dataset in monolingual vs. multilingual, and single task vs. multitask settings.

    Background During lockdown parents who have children suffering with life- limiting illness or who experienced grief had considerably reduced access to professionals and face-to-face working. Hospices were challenged to adapt a new way of working. Momentous events that so fundamentally impact our entire society lead us to re-examine our belief structures and ways of working. Aim To provide parents with the tools to enable them to feel more in control when everything else seems without control. To help create emotional openings, paths to their child’s world. Methods Parents were asked to attend a block of 10 online sessions to help them strengthen the relationship by using 30-minutes structured playtime once a week, using a kit of carefully selected toys in their own home. Parents were provided with the guidance to help build the child’s self-esteem, help the child learn self-control and responsibility. Providing dialogue, the parents were empowered to be a therapeutic agent of change for their child. Results Written and verbal feedback indicated that parents felt more equipped to support and improve their parent/child relationship. The results support that the benefits of Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) may extend to the family system. They became more in control and prepared for the future on how to support their children. The parents valued flexibility in the approach. Conclusions Our daily practices feel right and true to us, regardless of whether they have evolved to keep up with the pace of change. To initiate a new approach to current conditions, based on our experiences of COVID-19 and re-direction of support has been highly valued by patients and their families. However, they are not about making incremental changes that lead to new ways of doing things based on old beliefs. They are geared instead toward causing a total shift of perceptions, beliefs and thought process.

    This study sought to investigate wellbeing through the lens of people who have experienced the impacts of Covid-19 while working in an industry that was impacted severely by the effects of the pandemic. Study findings reveal the important and rather neglected role of the “sense of freedom” while examining, evaluating and fostering the wellbeing of individuals. This outcome has both societal, and tourism managerial implications.

    In a short time, technology has profoundly changed the ways in which we communicate. Especially since the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis, remote communication has seen a massive increase in all contexts. In dialogue interpreting settings, the use of remote interpreting (RI) by telephone and video link increases accessibility of public services to non-native speakers. Assessing its efficiency is therefore essential to ensure inclusion of all citizens. When communication is mediated by an interpreter by means of RI, this adds up to the already complex character of the communicative event. Since the interpreter takes a turn at talk after each primary participant’s turn, interactional issues, such as overlapping speech, are likely to have an even stronger disruptive effect on the communication than is the case in monolingual events. Evidence-based research on RI indicates that such disruptions are primarily related to the reduced possibility for synchronization of interaction (Wadensjö, 1999). Recent research focusing specifically on interaction management (Davitti, 2018; De Boe, 2020; Vranjes & Brône, 2020) suggests that in remote dialogue interpreting, smoothness of interaction is affected. This is mostly due to reduced visual access, which impinges on the use of nonverbal resources (such as gaze and gesture) to manage the conversational flow. These outcomes call for a more granular, micro-analytical investigation of the ways in which interaction management is accomplished in RI. Since smoothness is a decisive factor in participants’ satisfaction with communication, it is of vital importance to further investigate which factors contribute to realising fluent interaction management, as well as the role of visual access in these dynamics. Therefore, this panel invites evidence-based research contributions aimed at examining interaction management (turn transitions, negotiation of meaning, repair, backchannelling behaviour, a.o.) in RI by telephone and video link. We strongly encourage micro-analytical approaches, based on data derived from authentic as well as experimental settings (including simulations and eye-tracking experiments), in various contexts of spoken language remote dialogue interpreting. In sum, empirically grounded insights from these studies will make a contribution to the burgeoning research on the complex conversational dynamics of remote dialogue interpreting.     Background Timely post-discharge follow-up ensures safe inpatient/outpatient care transitions. Minimizing messaging to facilitate transitions is critical to staff well-being. Objectives Improve the proportion of outpatient dermatology appointment scheduled within 2 weeks post-discharge to >90%; decrease staff messaging facilitating scheduling by >25%. Methods Through process mapping dermatology care transitions (figure 1) we identified barriers to timely scheduling. We assessed impact of two interventions on post-discharge scheduling: video visits (VVs) initiated (March 2020) in response to COVID-19 and SmartPhrase intervention initiated (April 2021) in response to perceived high staff messaging rates (figure 2). We tracked time from discharge to scheduling of post-discharge appointment, percentage of patients scheduled ≤2 weeks, and staff messaging from Jan 2019 through May 2021. Satisfaction was evaluated via stakeholder interviews. Results Post-discharge VVs increased from 0% to 64% following adoption of telemedicine. The average number of days to schedule these improved from 31 days without VVs to 11 days with VVs; additional adoption of the SmartPhrase further reduced it to 6 days (figure 3). The percent of patients scheduled within 2 weeks improved from 79% without VVs to 82% with VVs, and then to 90% with SmartPhrase adoption (figure 4). Compared to scheduling rates prior to implementation of both interventions, the combination of VVs and SmartPhrase saved 72 discharged dermatology patients approximately 1824 days of wait-time in post-discharge appointment scheduling. Messaging has not yet decreased significantly, but longer follow-up is needed to assess whether messaging rates changed post-SmartPhrase implementation (figure 5). Early qualitative findings suggest overall satisfaction with VVs and the SmartPhrase workflow. Conclusions Early data suggest decreased time to post-discharge scheduling and increased percentage scheduled within two weeks post-VV implementation, and further improvement post-SmartPhrases. Staff messages did not decrease significantly; we plan to track messaging rates through August to fully assess SmartPhrase impact.

    Introduction: COVID-19 affects several vital organs, including the brain, and can cause neurological manifestations. Objective: To characterize the neurological manifestations of hospitalized patients with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19, between May and August, 2020. Design and setting: Observational study at Veredas Hospital and University Hospital Professor Alberto Antunes in Alagoas, Brazil. Methods: Socio-demographic data, infectious and neurological symptoms, risk factors for neurological and infectious diseases, clinical history, treatment instituted and outcome of patients were collected. Results: We included 30 patients with a mean age of 61.05 ± 18.65 years, 70% were female. The average between the onset of COVID-19 symptoms and hospital admission was 10 ± 9.7 days. Systemic arterial hypertension (66.7%) and diabetes mellitus (63.3%) were the main comorbidities. Cough, fever (60%) and dyspnea (56.7%) stood out in general symptoms. The most frequent neurological symptoms were changes in the level of consciousness (56.7%), epileptic seizures (33.3%) and motor deficits (23.3%). Ischemic stroke (40%) was the main neurological diagnosis, followed by epileptic seizures (33.3%), delirium (13.3%), encephalitis (10%), SAH (6.6%), vasculitis (6, 6%), hemorrhagic stroke, TIA, cranial neuropathy, meningitis and peripheral neuropathy (3.3% each). Regarding treatment, 100% used antibiotic therapy, 96.7% prophylactic heparin, 50% mechanical ventilation, 46.7% antiparasitic, 20% vasoactive drugs and 6.7% hydroxychloroquine. The death rate was 40%. Conclusions: Neurological manifestations by patients with COVID-19 are not uncommon, presenting in different ways, and can be potentially fatal. The main neurological symptom was changes in the level of consciousness and diagnosis, ischemic stroke.

    In the field of teaching architecture and design, workshops are usually the space where all the learning and knowledge of a study plan converge. In this case, the didactic instrumentation established in the study plan of the Faculty of Architecture of the Michoacana University of San Nicolás de Hidalgo considers within the semester planning the realization of a quick exercise, which has the purpose of recreating a design work under conditions pragmatics of disciplinary knowledge. Posing from a theoretical-practical approach to solve a problem connected with a certain reality, in this case the design of the habitat in indigenous communities, under circumstances of collaboration between students organized in teams made up of participants of various training levels, in this approach in a context working online due to the confinement imposed by the health emergency measures derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. En el campo de la enseñanza de la arquitectura y el diseño, normalmente los talleres son el espacio donde confluyen todos los aprendizajes y saberes de un plan de estudios. En este caso la instrumentación didáctica establecida en el plan de estudios de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo considera dentro la planeación semestral la realización de un ejercicio rápido, que tiene la finalidad de recrear un trabajo de diseño bajo condiciones pragmáticas del conocimiento disciplinar. Planteando desde un enfoque teórico-práctico resolver un problema conectado con una determinada realidad, en este caso el diseño del hábitat en comunidades indígenas, bajo circunstancias de colaboración entre estudiantes organizados en equipos conformados con participantes de varios niveles formativos, en este planteamiento en un contexto de trabajo en línea debido al confinamiento que imponen las medidas de la emergencia sanitarias derivada de la pandemia por COVID-19.
