Occupation in these areas brings various impacts due to its complexity and fragility. This paper aims to analyze dynamics of change in land use and land cover in the floodplain of Lago Grande do Curuai, near Santarém city, in the state of Pará. To that end, geotechnologies associated with landscape metrics and an analysis of two different geographic clippings of the region were used. The first geographic clipping covers the entire hydrographic basin, focusing on the analysis of the natural vegetation cover (dryland and lowlands); the second geographic clipping shows the area divided in six landscape zones, whose criteria are the productive systems and the characteristics of use of the region. We classified images from satellites Landsat 5 and 7 from the years 1985, 1997 and 2014. Landscape metrics established patterns that facilitated the comparison between different times. In the first geographic clipping, metrics show a moderate dynamic in the period. Although there is a decrease in dry land forest areas, the class in which there is greater increase is the secondary/"capoeira" vegetation. There are increases in the pasture areas, the farmlands, however, remain stable; pasture and farming areas occur in a dispersed way in the territory and in small allotments; this dynamic revealed by classification indicates that cultivation areas are occupied by rotation, being occupied and abandoned over time. In the second geographic clipping, zones 3 and 4 concentrate most of the processes ofreplacing the natural vegetation cover by anthropic activities. The analysis in different geographic clippings shows the researched area has heterogeneous patterns of occupation in time and space.; Les bassins d’inondation amazoniens sont de grande valeur économique, sociale et écologique.

Presidente Prudente is located in the western state of São Paulo and has a continental tropical climate. It is in the transition area between the tropical, polar and equatorial masses, resulting in the concentration of precipitation in the spring/summer season, with a significant decrease in the autumn/winter season. For the diagnosis of surface heat islands, we used Landsat 8, band 10 satellite images, in the thermal infrared sensor (TIRS) 1, with spectral resolution of 10.6-19.11 m and spatial resolution of 100 m, but treated and provided with 30-meter pixel resolution by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) (band 10). The results showed that the shapes of the surface heat islands and their intensities varied according to the presence of precipitation on the days prior to when the images taken. In the representative images of the rainy seasons (spring/summer), temperature differences between urban and rural targets were higher than in the less rainy seasons (autumn/winter). Thus, the presence of precipitation proved to be a key variable in the analysis of the surface temperature in a tropical environment.

Yet, its homogeneous and continuous monitoring remains challenging. That is particularly true for the Amazon region, which is sparsely inhabited and has a low density of ground-based rain gauge network. Satellite-derived estimates of precipitation are thus essential to fill up the gap of rainfall measurements in the region. The PERSIANN-CDR is a relatively new product (released in 2013), available for the period 1983-delayed present, which provides a renewed opportunity to analyse and estimate precipitation in the Amazon region, based on a long-term record. In this work, we use three decades (1983-2013) of PERSIANN-CDR daily rainfall data to characterize precipitation patterns in the southern region of the Amazon basin-which has been heavily deforested and transformed in the past decades-, and to assess trends. Our analyses confirm the potential of PERSIANN-CDR estimates to monitor rainfall in the Amazon. We also computed metrics of the rain season (onset, demise and duration) and highlighted significant trends toward a reduction of the rainy season in the Southern Amazon, mainly related to earlier demise dates. This work thus contributes to monitor possible signs of climate change in the region, and to the assessment of uncertainties in rainfall trends.

Urban heat islands result primarily from local changes in land use. The interpolation of the data often appears as a problem, as the real knowledge of the local climate remains largely obscure in detail, requiring thus a robust statistical and geostatistical treatment applied to a systematic and complex climate analysis that considers qualitative and quantitative aspects. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of the urban heat island (UHI) modeling based on the relationship with land use in Rancharia, a small town, considering temperature measures recorded through mobile transects, fixed points, and Landsat 7 satellite images. The results show that the model was efficient for the estimation of then air temperature and spatial distribution of the UHI.

However, Amazonian agricultures still are diversified and valuing diversity. The article describes the particularities of Mebêngôkre-Kayapó agriculture from a methodology developed with tools from anthropology, geography and ethnobotany in Indian villages of southern Pará. The current management of agrobiodiversity is analyzed through the organization of the fields in space and time and from surveys conducted with a focus on diversity in the level of species and varieties of crops. The results show that a large number of plants is still cultivated and confirm the vitality of indigenous knowledge on agrobiodiversity, even in change time. The principles of partition, conservation, reproduction, and making of Mebêngôkre biodiversity are associated with the concept of 'beauty' (mex), that values, far beyond landscapes and agricultural techniques, the good condition of social networks within and outside the village, as well as essential Mebêngôkre values.; Na atualidade, as sociedades tradicionais da Amazônia experimentam fortes mudanças com efeitos diretos sobre os sistemas agrícolas tradicionais, como a tendência à homogeneização de espécies e técnicas juntamente com uma dependência maior do mercado. Porém, as agriculturas amazônicas continuam diversificadas e valorizando a diversidade.

With the use of satellite imagery it is possible to show which areas of vegetation flood and those which are always clear of the water: for example: cerrado, pasture land, forest, culture. The multi temporal study permits us to evaluate and quantify the change in land cover in the flood plain after the creation of the dam. This study presents the evolution of the land use in the flood plain during the 17 years, before and after the construction of the dam (between 1992 and 2009).To allow comparisons and interpretations of data, the images used were provided by the sensor Landsat-TM with atmospheric and geometric corrections. The useful agricultural land on the floodplain increased more than 100%, in 17 years. The areas of cerrado or forest which became arable or pasture formed 22.5 % of the total territory. The implantation of the dam and the land-use changes which resulted have had and will continue to have major repercussions on the environmental and territorial organisation.

This study should be completed by an inter-comparison of global and regional precipitation satellite products in the Brazilian Amazonia.; A validação do algoritmo TRMM-3B43 é realizada utilizando dados de campo disponíveis a partir de janeiro 2000 a dezembro de 2008 na Amazônia brasileira.
