En s’informant auprès d’acteurs de l’orientation de la région Champagne-Ardenne et en combinant différentes méthodologies de recherche, les travaux ont cherché à comprendre l’écosystème de l’orientation, les pratiques des différents acteurs ainsi que leurs besoins afin de formuler des recommandations pertinentes pour améliorer l’accompagnement à la construction du parcours d’orientation des jeunes. Notre travail s’est situé dans la lignée des sciences participatives de l’orientation qui, en complément des sciences de l’éducation, vise à mieux accompagner les jeunes dans la construction de leur parcours.Ce travail a montré que l’étude de l’orientation sans une prise en compte des contraintes inhérentesaux établissements est impossible. Pour que les élèves puissent construire plus facilement leur parcours et leurs projets futurs, il apparait nécessaire de revoir la place de l’orientation dans les établissements, en garantissant les heures d’orientation dans les dotations des établissements et en appliquant l’ancrage disciplinaire de l’orientation, qui n’existe pour le moment que dans les textes. En l’état, les 54 heures d’orientation ne sont pas investies, l’orientation souffre d’un manque de place dans les établissements et les acteurs ne peuvent assurer un accompagnement efficace de tous les élèves.

Four portfolio techniques are considered (mean-variance, robust portfolio, minimum-variance, and equi-risk budgeting), and four covariance estimators are applied (sample covariance, ordinary least squares (OLS) covariance, cross-validated eigenvalue shrinkage covariance, and eigenvalue clipping). Some comparisons between the covariance estimators in terms of eigenvalue stability and four metrics (i.e. expected risk, gross leverage, Sharpe ratio and effective diversification) exhibit the superiority of the eigenvalue clipping covariance estimator. The experiments on the Russel1000 dataset show that the minimum-variance with eigenvalue clipping is the model suitable for client A, whereas robust portfolio with eigenvalue clipping is the one suitable for client B.

The early-stage structural scheme design of a building is a complex task requiring the collection of multiple information categories such as geometry, loading and materials. The collection and review of this information is traditionally conducted in a 2D environment. This is inefficient, time-consuming, and tedious. This paper provides a review of how structural engineers’ understanding and implementation of BIM has evolved significantly in recent years, validated by extant literature in areas such as BIM automation, visual programming, and structural optimisation in the structural engineering sector. Structural engineers are growing more aware that BIM provides a vast repository of data to be used in their design processes, the author presents solutions through action-based research to demonstrate how visual programming can be used to aid the development of an early-stage structural scheme design by utilising the geometric data within an architectural Revit model. A focus group of industry professionals reviewed and tested the proposed solutions and found them to add value and efficiency to the process. While the proposed solutions are in basic form, they can be developed further to gain additional efficiencies. It was noted that due to their design responsibility, structural engineers felt the need to manually validate the results of the automated process, potentially nullifying efficiencies gained.

Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) is an important but challenging field focused on improving the interaction between humans and robots such to make the interaction more intelligent and effective. However, building a natural conversational HRI is an interdisciplinary challenge for scholars, engineers, and designers. It is generally assumed that the pinnacle of human- robot interaction will be having fluid naturalistic conversational interaction that in important ways mimics that of how humans interact with each other. This of course is challenging at a number of levels, and in particular there are considerable difficulties when it comes to naturally monitoring and responding to the user’s mental state. On the topic of mental states, one field that has received little attention to date is moni- toring the user for possible confusion states. Confusion is a non-trivial mental state which can be seen as having at least two substates. There two confusion states can be thought of as being associated with either negative or positive emotions. In the former, when people are productively confused, they have a passion to solve any current difficulties. Meanwhile, people who are in unproductive confusion may lose their engagement and motivation to overcome those difficulties, which in turn may even lead them to drop the current conversation. While there has been some research on confusion monitoring and detection, it has been limited with the most focused on evaluating confusion states in online learning tasks. The central hypothesis of this research is that the monitoring and detection of confusion states in users is essential to fluid task-centric HRI and that it should be possible to detect such confusion and adjust policies to mitigate the confusion in users. In this report, I expand on this hypothesis and set out several research questions. I also provide a comprehensive literature review before outlining work done to date towards my research hypothesis, I also set out plans for future experimental work.

The Digital Standards pillar consists of industry experts who champion the benefits of common rules, guidelines, and workflows that facilitate the improvement of information flow and information management across asset life cycles. Digital standards provide a common language that can be translated to technical specifications enabling clients, designers, contractors, and facilities managers, irrespective of their preferred tools, to communicate efficiently and reduce cost, rework, and disputes. Working closely with the Digital Procurement and Digital Education and Training pillars, this pillar is developing and delivering Irish Information Management/BIM (Digital Construction) guidelines for the sector. This report summarises existing digital construction standards, guidance documents, and templates. The objectives of this report are: To identify digital construction standards and supporting resources available to the industry. To create a grading system for the reviewed digital construction standards and documents based on their relevance to the Irish sector. The methodology of this report and tool consisted of desk research into digital construction standards and supporting documents found both online and in the standards database. A spreadsheet was developed as a tool for identifying relevant standards and, in particular, their relevance to Build Digital. Each document found in this research was recorded, reviewed, and graded based on the scoring system created for this report and tool. Standards and documentation deemed most important were graded with ‘recommended’. This tool is intended to be flexible should new standards be published, or a change is required to an existing standard.

Over the years there has been an increased amount of immigration into Ireland leading to the formation of a multicultural society. More recently however immigration has become a controversial issue within Ireland leading to growing anti-immigrant sentiment and political conflict (Costa, 2023) reported as early as 2018 in a report by Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and Economic & Social Research Institute (McGinnity, Grotti, Russell, Fahey, et al., 2018). This project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the factors behind such sentiment and its consequences by means of collecting comprehensive data on it and performing a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data.

The Annual Survey 2022 was conducted to assess the state of digital transformation in the Irish construction and built environment sector. This report presents the analysis of survey data, with a focus on implications for the Build Digital project and Build Digital’s five pillars: Digital Leadership & Cultural Change, Digital Standards, Digital Education & Training, Digital Procurement, and Sustainability & Circular Economy. Key findings from the survey indicated that a significant number of organisations have started their digital transformation journey, with many identifying themselves as proactive and possessing a clear business-focused strategy. However, a considerable cohort of respondents are keen to progress but lack clarity on implementation strategies, highlighting the need for targeted support and guidance.

Four portfolio techniques are considered (mean-variance, robust portfolio, minimum-variance, and equi-risk budgeting), and four covariance estimators are applied (sample covariance, ordinary least squares (OLS) covariance, cross-validated eigenvalue shrinkage covariance, and eigenvalue clipping). Some comparisons between the covariance estimators in terms of eigenvalue stability and four metrics (i.e. expected risk, gross leverage, Sharpe ratio and effective diversification) exhibit the superiority of the eigenvalue clipping covariance estimator. The experiments on the Russel1000 dataset show that the minimum-variance with eigenvalue clipping is the model suitable for client A, whereas robust portfolio with eigenvalue clipping is the one suitable for client B.

The early-stage structural scheme design of a building is a complex task requiring the collection of multiple information categories such as geometry, loading and materials. The collection and review of this information is traditionally conducted in a 2D environment. This is inefficient, time-consuming, and tedious. This paper provides a review of how structural engineers’ understanding and implementation of BIM has evolved significantly in recent years, validated by extant literature in areas such as BIM automation, visual programming, and structural optimisation in the structural engineering sector. Structural engineers are growing more aware that BIM provides a vast repository of data to be used in their design processes, the author presents solutions through action-based research to demonstrate how visual programming can be used to aid the development of an early-stage structural scheme design by utilising the geometric data within an architectural Revit model. A focus group of industry professionals reviewed and tested the proposed solutions and found them to add value and efficiency to the process. While the proposed solutions are in basic form, they can be developed further to gain additional efficiencies. It was noted that due to their design responsibility, structural engineers felt the need to manually validate the results of the automated process, potentially nullifying efficiencies gained.

Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) is an important but challenging field focused on improving the interaction between humans and robots such to make the interaction more intelligent and effective. However, building a natural conversational HRI is an interdisciplinary challenge for scholars, engineers, and designers. It is generally assumed that the pinnacle of human- robot interaction will be having fluid naturalistic conversational interaction that in important ways mimics that of how humans interact with each other. This of course is challenging at a number of levels, and in particular there are considerable difficulties when it comes to naturally monitoring and responding to the user’s mental state. On the topic of mental states, one field that has received little attention to date is moni- toring the user for possible confusion states. Confusion is a non-trivial mental state which can be seen as having at least two substates. There two confusion states can be thought of as being associated with either negative or positive emotions. In the former, when people are productively confused, they have a passion to solve any current difficulties. Meanwhile, people who are in unproductive confusion may lose their engagement and motivation to overcome those difficulties, which in turn may even lead them to drop the current conversation. While there has been some research on confusion monitoring and detection, it has been limited with the most focused on evaluating confusion states in online learning tasks. The central hypothesis of this research is that the monitoring and detection of confusion states in users is essential to fluid task-centric HRI and that it should be possible to detect such confusion and adjust policies to mitigate the confusion in users. In this report, I expand on this hypothesis and set out several research questions. I also provide a comprehensive literature review before outlining work done to date towards my research hypothesis, I also set out plans for future experimental work.

The Digital Standards pillar consists of industry experts who champion the benefits of common rules, guidelines, and workflows that facilitate the improvement of information flow and information management across asset life cycles. Digital standards provide a common language that can be translated to technical specifications enabling clients, designers, contractors, and facilities managers, irrespective of their preferred tools, to communicate efficiently and reduce cost, rework, and disputes. Working closely with the Digital Procurement and Digital Education and Training pillars, this pillar is developing and delivering Irish Information Management/BIM (Digital Construction) guidelines for the sector. This report summarises existing digital construction standards, guidance documents, and templates. The objectives of this report are: To identify digital construction standards and supporting resources available to the industry. To create a grading system for the reviewed digital construction standards and documents based on their relevance to the Irish sector. The methodology of this report and tool consisted of desk research into digital construction standards and supporting documents found both online and in the standards database. A spreadsheet was developed as a tool for identifying relevant standards and, in particular, their relevance to Build Digital. Each document found in this research was recorded, reviewed, and graded based on the scoring system created for this report and tool. Standards and documentation deemed most important were graded with ‘recommended’. This tool is intended to be flexible should new standards be published, or a change is required to an existing standard.

Over the years there has been an increased amount of immigration into Ireland leading to the formation of a multicultural society. More recently however immigration has become a controversial issue within Ireland leading to growing anti-immigrant sentiment and political conflict (Costa, 2023) reported as early as 2018 in a report by Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and Economic & Social Research Institute (McGinnity, Grotti, Russell, Fahey, et al., 2018). This project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the factors behind such sentiment and its consequences by means of collecting comprehensive data on it and performing a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data.

The Annual Survey 2022 was conducted to assess the state of digital transformation in the Irish construction and built environment sector. This report presents the analysis of survey data, with a focus on implications for the Build Digital project and Build Digital’s five pillars: Digital Leadership & Cultural Change, Digital Standards, Digital Education & Training, Digital Procurement, and Sustainability & Circular Economy. Key findings from the survey indicated that a significant number of organisations have started their digital transformation journey, with many identifying themselves as proactive and possessing a clear business-focused strategy. However, a considerable cohort of respondents are keen to progress but lack clarity on implementation strategies, highlighting the need for targeted support and guidance.
