    Background: During the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the test-negative design (TND) was extensively used in many countries to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE). Typically, the TND involves the recruitment of care-seeking individuals who meet a common clinical case definition. All participants are then tested for an infection of interest. Objectives: To review and describe the variation in TND methodology, and disclosure of potential biases, as applied to the evaluation of COVID-19 VE during the early vaccination phase of the pandemic. Methods: We conducted a systematic review by searching four biomedical databases using defined keywords to identify peer-reviewed articles published between January 1, 2020, and January 25, 2022. We included only original articles that employed a TND to estimate VE of COVID-19 vaccines in which cases and controls were evaluated based on SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test results. Results: We identified 96 studies, 35 of which met the defined criteria. Most studies were from North America (16 studies) and targeted the general population (28 studies). Outcome case definitions were based primarily on COVID-19-like symptoms; however, several papers did not consider or specify symptoms. Cases and controls had the same inclusion criteria in only half of the studies. Most studies relied upon administrative or hospital databases assembled for a different (non-evaluation) clinical purpose. Potential unmeasured confounding (20 studies), misclassification of current SARS-CoV-2 infection (16 studies) and selection bias (10 studies) were disclosed as limitations by some studies. Conclusion: We observed potentially meaningful deviations from the validated design in the application of the TND during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the digital shift in higher education and forced university faculty to transform their courses into a blended or online modality to comply with current public health measures. Many instructors have implemented blended online courses, which combine synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning activities. The purpose of this study is to document university students’ learning experiences in blended online courses during the pandemic, and to identify instructional strategies to support student engagement in these courses. It adopts a mixed-methods research strategy in which data were collected through questionnaires from students who took a blended online course in the summer semester of 2020, in a variety of disciplines and academic cycles at four Quebec universities (n = 482). Following the analysis of student responses to open-ended questions, five recurring themes were identified: the enhancement of student-student interactions, the dynamism of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, the structured presentation of the course, the explanations and feedback from instructors, and the accessibility and involvement of instructors. For each theme, suggestions from student feedback are provided to facilitate student engagement in blended online courses.

    We develop a new method to locally cluster curves and discover functional motifs, that is, typical shapes that may recur several times along and across the curves capturing important local characteristics. In order to identify these shared curve portions, our method leverages ideas from functional data analysis (joint clustering and alignment of curves), bioinformatics (local alignment through the extension of high similarity seeds) and fuzzy clustering (curves belonging to more than one cluster, if they contain more than one typical shape). It can employ various dissimilarity measures and incorporate derivatives in the discovery process, thus exploiting complex facets of shapes. We demonstrate the performance of our method with an extensive simulation study, and show how it generalizes other clustering methods for functional data. Finally, we provide real data applications to Italian Covid-19 death curves and Omics data related to mutagenesis. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

    La dernière décennie est caractérisée par l'émergence de plusieurs programmes sportifs visant à former les intervenants sur le développement et le transfert des habiletés de vie. Toutefois, peu de programmes ont misé sur une approche collaborative entre les intervenants pour y arriver, notamment dans le contexte du sport scolaire au secondaire. L'objectif général de la thèse était d'approfondir la compréhension du processus de développement et de transfert des habiletés de vie en sport scolaire du point de vue des chercheurs, des intervenants, des administrateurs et des élèves-athlètes à travers la participation au programme longitudinal Gagnant pour la vie. Ce programme visait à favoriser le développement et le transfert de cinq habiletés de vie, c'est-à-dire la Fixation d'objectifs, la Concentration, les Saines habitudes alimentaires, les Comportements sécuritaires et la Récupération physique et mentale. La thèse est constituée de trois articles scientifiques. L'article 1 a pour objectif d'explorer, à l'aide d'entretiens semi-structurés, l'expérience d'intervenants (c.-à-d. les entraîneurs et les enseignants) et celle d'élèves-athlètes suite à leur première année de participation au programme. Plus précisément, il est question de l'expérience des intervenants dans l'enseignement et le transfert des habiletés de vie ainsi que de l'expérience des élèves-athlètes dans l'apprentissage et le transfert des habiletés de vie. Les résultats indiquent que les intervenants ont facilité le développement et le transfert des habiletés de vie en utilisant différentes stratégies en lien avec le caractère explicite du programme (p. ex. organiser des leçons, utiliser des outils du programme, discuter du transfert). Néanmoins, les expériences des intervenants et des élèves-athlètes suggèrent que certains facteurs ont influencé la capacité à développer avec succès les habiletés de vie et les transférer entre le contexte sportif et scolaire. L'article 2 a pour objectif d'examiner les défis et les succès rencontrés par l'équipe de recherche et les administrateurs dans la mise en œuvre du programme à l'intérieur d'une recherche-action participative longitudinale (c.-à-d. trois ans). La perspective de l'équipe de recherche est issue de discussions et réflexions entre les membres, alors que la perspective des administrateurs est issue d'entretiens semi-structurés. Plus précisément, les perspectives des deux partis sont présentées à travers les cycles de la recherche-action participative (c.-à-d. planifier, agir, observer et réfléchir au changement de pratiques). En ce qui concerne les défis, l'équipe de recherche a soulevé différents facteurs propres au contexte scolaire (p. ex. roulement de personnel, surcharge de travail) et l'arrivée de la pandémie COVID-19. Les administrateurs, quant à eux, ont souligné différents facteurs en lien avec la participation des intervenants (p. ex. manque de temps et manque d'engagement des enseignants). En ce qui concerne les succès, l'équipe de recherche a soulevé différentes initiatives prises sur le terrain dans la mise en œuvre du programme (p. ex. ateliers sur les habiletés de vie, modelage). Les administrateurs, quant à eux, ont mentionné la formule clé en main du programme (c.-à-d. structure, contenu et alignement avec la mission de l'école) et la disponibilité des chercheurs, ce qui a permis un changement progressif des pratiques au fil du temps. L'article 3 a pour objectif d'examiner à l'aide de questionnaires et de façon longitudinale sur trois ans le développement des habiletés de vie des élèves-athlètes à travers leur participation au programme Gagnant pour la vie. Les élèves-athlètes ont rapporté des scores plus élevés pour la sous-échelle de la Fixation d'objectifs entre les temps 1, 2 et 3 ainsi que pour la sous-échelle de la Récupération sociale entre les temps 1 et 2. À l'inverse, les élèves-athlètes ont rapporté des scores plus faibles sur la sous-échelle de la Qualité du sommeil entre les temps 2 et 3. Il y avait également une interaction significative entre l'âge de départ des élèves-athlètes dans le programme et certaines sous-échelles (c.-à-d. sous-échelles de la Fixation d'objectifs, de la Concentration et de la Reconcentration, des Comportements des entraîneurs, de la Qualité du sommeil et de la Récupération sociale). Dans leur ensemble, les résultats de la thèse permettent de faire ressortir des contributions sur le plan conceptuel, méthodologique et pratique qui peuvent être considérées afin d'optimiser les futurs programmes sur les habiletés de vie. The last decade has been characterized by the emergence of several sport-based programs aimed at training stakeholders on the development and transfer of life skills. However, few programs have relied on a collaborative approach between stakeholders to achieve this, particularly in the context of high school sports. The purpose of this thesis was to deepen our understanding of the process of life skill development and transfer in the context of school sports from the perspective of the researchers, stakeholders, administrators, and student-athletes through participation in the longitudinal program Winner for Life. This program promotes the development and transfer of five life skills, namely Goal Setting, Concentration, Healthy Eating Habits, Safety Behavior, as well as Physical and Mental Recovery. The present thesis is composed of three scientific articles. Article 1 explores the experiences of stakeholders (i.e., coaches, teachers) and student-athletes following their first year of participation in the life skills program using semi-structured interviews. More specifically, the experiences of stakeholders in the teaching and transfer of life skills as well as the experiences of student-athletes in the learning and transfer of life skills are discussed. Results suggest that stakeholders facilitated the teaching and transfer of life skills using different strategies in line with the explicit nature of the program (e.g., organizing lessons, using program tools, discussing transfer). Nevertheless, the experiences of stakeholders and student-athletes suggested that certain factors influenced the capacity to successfully develop life skills and transfer them between the school and sport context. Article 2 examines the challenges and successes encountered by the research team and the high school administrators in implementing the life skills program within a longitudinal participatory action research (i.e., three years). The research team's perspective originated from discussions and reflections between members. The administrators' perspective emanated from thematic data analysis following semi-structured interviews. The perceptions of each party are presented through the cycles of participatory action research (i.e., planning for change, implementing and observing change, reflecting on change). In terms of challenges, the research team raised different factors specific to the school context (e.g., staff turnover, work overload) and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The administrators discussed challenges related to program participation (e.g., lack of time, lack of engagement from their teachers). In terms of successes, the research team highlighted on-ground initiatives during programme implementation (e.g., workshops on life skills, modelling). The administrators highlighted successes related to the program's structure, pedagogical content and mission as well as the availability of researchers, which resulted in progressively changing practices over time. Article 3 examines the life skills development of student-athletes throughout their participation in the three-year longitudinal program entitled Winner for Life using questionnaires. Results revealed that student-athletes reported higher scores on the Goal Setting subscale between times 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Social Recovery subscale between times 1 and 2. On the contrary, student-athletes reported lower scores on the Sleep Quality subscale between times 2 and 3. There was also a significant interaction between the starting age of student-athletes in the program and certain subscales (i.e., Goal Setting, Concentration and Reconcentration, Coaches' Safety Behaviors, Sleep Quality and Social Recovery). Considering these results, the conceptual, methodological, and practical contributions of the thesis are discussed to improve the influence of future sport-based life skills programs.

    La situation de pandémie COVID-19 et les mesures sanitaires qui en découlent ont grandement affecté la population québécoise depuis mars 2020. Plusieurs sphères de la vie des Québécois ont été bouleversées, incluant leurs habitudes alimentaires. Plusieurs études ont évalué les impacts à court terme, soit pendant la première période de confinement, de la pandémie COVID-19 sur l'alimentation. Généralement, une amélioration de la qualité alimentaire semble être observée par la majorité des études. Toutefois, les impacts à plus long terme de la pandémie sur l'alimentation sont peu étudiés. De plus, les seules études disponibles sur le sujet fournissent des données limitées par le fait qu'elles ont été obtenues de manière rétrospective et qu'elles sont basées sur des perceptions de changement. Il s'avère essentiel de documenter les impacts à plus long terme de la pandémie afin de mieux comprendre et de mieux agir sur les comportements individuels, sociaux et environnementaux qui influencent les choix alimentaires de la population dans ce contexte sanitaire inédit et dans de futurs contextes similaires. L'objectif de ce projet de maitrise est d'évaluer les impacts de la pandémie COVID-19 et des mesures sanitaires qui y en découlent sur les habitudes alimentaires au Québec. Plus spécifiquement, nous documenterons les changements dans la qualité de l'alimentation telle que mesurée par le Healthy Eating Food Index (HEFI)-2019 dans un échantillon de plus de 4000 Québécois participant au projet NutriQuébec entre juin 2019 et février 2022. Les changements dans la consommation de certaines catégories d'aliments comme les légumes et fruits, les produits à grains entiers, et les aliments ne faisant pas partie des catégories recommandées dans le Guide alimentaire canadien 2019 seront également documentés. Les résultats montrent que dans cette population, le score HEFI-2019 moyen avant la pandémie, c'est-à-dire avant le 12 mars 2020, était de 48,3 (IC (intervalle de confiance) à 95% 46,8 à 49,8) sur un maximum de 80 points. Le score HEFI-2019 moyen est resté inchangé durant la première année de la pandémie (mars 2020 à février 2021), mais a diminué de 1,4 point (IC à 95% -2,4 à -0,4) au cours de la deuxième année de la pandémie (mars 2021 à février 2022). La légère diminution du score HEFI-2019 au cours de la deuxième année de la pandémie a été observée en raison des changements dans les scores des composantes des légumes et fruits (-0,5 point; IC 95% -1,0 à -0,1), des aliments protéinés (-0,1 point; IC 95% -0,2 à -0,0) et du sodium (-0,3 point; IC 95% -0,6 à 0,0). Malgré une faible diminution de la qualité alimentaire, la pandémie COVID-19 apparait comme un nouvel obstacle à une saine alimentation. The COVID-19 pandemic situation and the resulting health measures have greatly affected the Quebec population since March 2020. Several spheres of Quebecers' lives have been turned upside down, including their eating habits. Several studies have evaluated the short-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on diet during the first lockdown period. Generally, an improvement in food quality seems to be observed by many studies. However, the longer-term impacts of the pandemic on diet quality are poorly studied. In addition, the few studies available on the topic provide data that are limited by the fact that they were obtained in a cross-sectional, retrospective design and based on perceptions of change. It is essential to document the longer-term impacts of the pandemic to better understand and act on the individual, social and environmental behaviours that influence people's food choices in this unprecedented health context. The objective of this master's project was to evaluate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting health measures on eating habits in the province of Quebec. More specifically, we will document changes in diet quality as measured by the Healthy Eating Food Index (HEFI)-2019 in a sample of over 4000 Quebecers participating in the NutriQuébec project between June 2019 and February 2022. Changes in the consumption of certain food categories such as vegetables and fruits, whole grain products, and foods not included in the categories recommended in Canada's Food Guide 2019 will also be documented. In this population, the mean HEFI-2019 score before the pandemic (before March 12, 2020) was 48.3 (95% CI 46.8 to 49.8) out of a maximum of 80 points. The mean HEFI-2019 score remained unchanged during the first year of the pandemic (March 2020 to February 2021), but decreased by 1.4 points (95% CI -2.4 to -0.4) during the second year of the pandemic (March 2021 to February 2022). The slight decrease in HEFI-2019 score during the second year of the pandemic was mainly due to changes in the component scores for vegetables and fruits (-0.5 points, 95% CI -1.0 to -0.1), protein foods (-0.1 points, 95% CI -0.2 to -0.0), and sodium (-0.3 points, 95% CI -0.6 to 0.0). Despite a small decrease in food quality, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be a new barrier to healthy eating.

    Quelles sont les expériences des étudiants universitaires en situation de handicap concernant l'accès aux accommodements scolaires pendant la pandémie de COVID-19 au Québec ? Malgré l'augmentation des inscriptions d'étudiants universitaires handicapés, les études continuent de montrer un écart croissant dans leurs résultats scolaires par rapport à leurs pairs (Santos et al., 2019 ; Toutain, 2019). Avant la pandémie, la plupart des établissements d'enseignement inclusifs étaient équipés pour répondre à des besoins d'accessibilité déjà connus, comme l'ont indiqué des études antérieures de McGregor (2016), Moh (2012), Erten (2011) et Cawthon (2010). À cette époque, il existait une compréhension générale des défis ou des obstacles existants souvent rencontrés par ces étudiants, et l'un des problèmes les plus courants était lié à la fourniture ou à l'accès aux accommodements scolaires; les expériences rapportées étant assorties d'incohérences en fonction de plusieurs facteurs de l'environnement universitaire ou de la condition de l'étudiant (Somma & Bennett, 2020). Un examen supplémentaire de la littérature révèle également que la pandémie de COVID-19 continue d'exacerber les pressions sur ces étudiants, car les changements dans les modalités d'apprentissage, de l'enseignement en ligne à l'enseignement en face à face et hybride, sont considérés comme conduisant souvent à une négligence involontaire de ces groupes dans l'environnement d'apprentissage (Greta, 2020 ; Soleterre, 2020 ; Sutton, 2020). En raison des défis identifiés en matière d'accessibilité avant la pandémie, l'ère COVID-19 soulève la question de savoir si ce qui constituait auparavant des services de soutien scolaire appropriés pour des handicaps spécifiques reste cohérent dans son efficacité à soutenir ces étudiants devant cette nouvelle réalité académique. Par conséquent, la présente étude, dont le cadre théorique est fondé sur l'approche par les capacités de Sen (1994), s'est concentrée sur l'exploration des expériences individuelles en matière d'accès aux accommodements scolaires en raison de la pandémie dans une université québécoise francophone. L'étude qualitative basée sur l'analyse thématique est utilisée pour comprendre l'expérience des étudiants avec les processus et l'accès aux accommodements scolaires; il explore de manière unique leurs récits basés sur des enquêtes et des entretiens, tout en examinant simultanément leurs aptitudes uniques et leurs conditions particulières ont un impact sur ces expériences. La méthodologie comprend l'exploration des récits des étudiants participants, sur la base d'une enquête démographique et d'un entretien ultérieur (annexes D et E) pour recueillir des données avant de mener une analyse approfondie d'un logiciel qualitatif (NVivo). L'utilisation d'un processus d'analyse thématique en six phases (comme indiqué dans la Figure 5) par Braun & Clarke (2006, 2021) a été adoptée pour identifier les thèmes dans les différents récits rassemblés à partir des transcriptions des entretiens. Enfin, les résultats de l'étude ont montré que la plupart des étudiants ont trouvé que l'université cible était un environnement d'apprentissage inclusif, avec un accès adéquat aux accommodements scolaires malgré la pandémie De même, la plupart des participants ont préféré l'apprentissage en ligne aux modalités en face à face ou hybrides car elles leur permettaient d'accéder plus facilement à l'apprentissage et de gérer leurs conditions simultanément depuis leur domicile. Cependant, certains étudiants ont identifié des défis dans l'apprentissage en ligne comme la perte de la socialisation par les pairs et un impact négatif sur leur santé mentale. En outre, certains participants ont constaté que certains enseignants n'étaient pas disposés à autoriser l'utilisation d'aménagements scolaires dans leurs cours. Cependant, tous les participants ont déclaré avoir eu des expériences positives avec lede soutien despar les pairs dans l'université cible. What are the experiences of university students with disabilities regarding access to academic accommodations during the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec? Despite rising enrollments of university students with disabilities, studies show an increasing gap in their academic achievements compared to peers (Santos et al., 2019; Toutain, 2019). Prior to the pandemic, most inclusive education institutions were equipped to cater to previously known accessibility needs, as was identified in earlier studies by McGregor (2016), Moh (2012), Erten (2011) & Cawthon (2010). At that time, there was a general understanding of existing challenges or barriers often experienced by these students, with one of the most common issues related to the provision or access to academic accommodations, with students relaying inconsistencies in their experiences, depending on several factors in the academic environment or the condition of the student (Somma & Bennett, 2020). Further, an additional review of literature likewise revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate pressures on these students, as changes in learning modalities from online to in-person and hybrid instructions are seemingly leading to an inadvertent oversight of these groups in their learning environment (Greta, 2020; Soleterre, 2020; Sutton, 2020). Due to previously identified challenges to accessibility prior to the pandemic, the COVID-19 era brings on the argument on if what previously constituted appropriate academic support services for specific disabilities remains consistent in its efficacy for supporting these students during the pandemic. Therefore, the current study grounding its theoretical framework on the Capability Approach by Sen (1994), explored individual experiences on access to critical learning supports (resources' conversion to functions), especially due to the changes from the pandemic, at a Francophone Quebec University. The qualitative study uses thematic analysis to explore students' narratives on processes and access to academic accommodations. The data instruments are based on a survey and interview, which examined their unique capabilities against their present academic accommodations, using their conditions to gauge accessibility to their experiences. The methodology encompassed an exploration of the narrations of participating students based on a demographic survey and a subsequent interview (Appendix D and E) to gather data prior to conducting the research study using Qualitative software (NVivo) for an in-depth analysis. The suggested use of a six-phased thematic (as shown in Figure 5) analysis process by Braun & Clarke (2006,2021) was adopted to identify themes across the various narratives as pooled from the interview transcripts. Finally, the study's outcome showed that most students found that the target University was an inclusive learning environment with adequate academic accommodations despite the pandemic. Likewise, most participants preferred online learning to face-to-face or hybrid modalities, as it better supported their access to learning and medical conditions. However, some students identified online learning with the loss of peer socialization and negatively impacting their mental health. In addition, some participants observed that specific instructors were unwilling to allow academic accommodations in their classrooms. Nevertheless, all participants expressed having supportive peer experiences at the target University.

    Les technologies numériques sont intégrées à la pratique des conseillers.ères œuvrant dans le domaine de l'orientation depuis plus de 40 ans (Sampson, et al., 2020). Toutefois l'accompagnement à distance de ses clients est un phénomène plus récent. Peu de conseillers et conseillères d'orientation accompagnaient à distance leurs clients avant l'arrivée de la pandémie de COVID-19 (Ozenne et al., 2018; Turcotte et Goyer, 2017). La majorité des recherches portant sur l'accompagnement ont été menées auprès de personnes conseillères en counseling personnel et psychothérapie qui utilisent déjà des modalités d'intervention à distance. Dans ce contexte, nous nous sommes interrogés sur la manière dont des conseillers.ères du domaine de l'orientation ont transposé des savoirs (Tardif, 1999) ou construit des savoirs professionnels particuliers (Mialaret, 2011; Thievenaz, 2013)? À certains égards, ces conseillers.ères qui se sont aventurés.es dans ces nouvelles modalités disposaient donc de peu de savoirs homologués (Schön, 1994) dans le cadre de leur formation formelle pour intervenir à distance. Ils.elles ont fait face à de nouvelles situations et se sont demandés.es s'il était possible de transposer ce qu'ils avaient appris à faire dans les entretiens en face à face à de nouveaux environnements que les technologies de l'information et des communications proposent. C'est dans cette perspective que cette étude avait pour objectif général de recueillir les perceptions et les réflexions de personnes conseillères d'orientation sur les savoirs professionnels qu'elles utilisent dans leurs interventions menées à distance. Cette recherche de nature « narrative et phénoménologique » (Creswell, 2003) porte sur les récits de 27 personnes conseillères d'orientation en situation de transfert et de production de savoirs d'accompagnement. Le désir de comprendre un phénomène complexe en contexte naturel avec une finalité descriptive et exploratoire a guidé le choix de privilégier une méthodologie qui s'apparente à la méthode améliorée des incidents critiques (Butterfield et al., 2009). On se sert souvent de la méthode des incidents critiques pour aider à comprendre et décrire des enjeux ou des obstacles auxquels font face les personnes, comprendre des situations de succès ou d'échec et étudier les manières efficaces et inefficaces d'être en action. Les résultats de cette recherche montrent que, somme toute, en faisant usage des technologies numériques, les personnes conseillères ont accompagné à distance leurs personnes clientes de la même manière qu'elles le faisaient en présentiel. Elles ont maintenu un certain « statu quo », c'est-à-dire, qu'elles transfèrent tout en ajustant quelque peu, les savoirs professionnels acquis de la formation initiale et de l'expérience et reproduisent ainsi ce qu'elles étaient habituées de faire en face à face, et ce, en privilégiant l'usage de la vidéoconférence et, dans une moindre mesure, celui du téléphone. On constate également que ces personnes professionnelles, assujetties à un code de déontologie, se questionnent sur la manière et le bien fondé d'intervenir en utilisant ces modalités d'intervention à distance. De nombreuse réflexions d'ordre déontologique ont été formulées pour éclairer le transfert d'une pratique en présentiel vers une pratique à distance. Plusieurs auteurs voient ici une opportunité manquée de « transformer » sa pratique en intégrant davantage l'utilisation des technologies numériques (Goddard, 2021 ; Kettunen et al., 2020 ; Kettunen et Sampson, 2019). Toutefois, sans un passage par la formation continue, formelle ou informelle, il pourrait être plus difficile, pour de nombreuses personnes conseillères, d'aborder l'accompagnement à distance de manière différente que de seulement transférer et ajuster minimalement ses savoirs professionnels acquis en formation initiale et continue et dans l'exercice de leur profession. Comme l'avance Goddard (2021), il faut aider les personnes intervenantes à anticiper et à développer une forme d'attitude « intentionnelle » de créer des interventions ou une manière d'intervenir qui intègre les diverses technologies numériques mises à la disposition des personnes conseillères. Digital technologies have been integrated into the practice of counsellors working in the field of career guidance for more than 40 years (Sampson, et al., 2020). However, counselling at distance for his clients is a more recent phenomenon. Few guidance counsellors supported their clients at distance before the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic (Ozenne et al., 2018; Turcotte and Goyer, 2017). Most of the research on supported interventions at distance has been conducted with personal counselling and psychotherapy counsellors who already use intervention at distance modalities. In this context, we wondered about the way counsellors in the field of guidance have transposed competencies (Tardif, 1999) or built specific professional competencies (Mialaret, 2011; Thievenaz, 2013)? In some respects, these counsellors who ventured into these new methods therefore had little legitimated knowledge (Schön, 1994) as part of their formal training to intervene at a distance. They inevitably faced new situations and wondered if it was possible to transpose what they had learned to do in face-to-face interviews to new environments such as information technology and communications propose. It is in this perspective that the general objective of this study was to collect the perceptions and reflections of guidance counsellors on their commitment to a practice of distance guidance counselling, based on their reading of the professional competencies that they use in their interventions. This " narrative and phenomenological " research (Creswell, 2003) focuses on the stories of 27 guidance counsellors in a situation of transfer and production of career counselling competencies. The desire to understand a complex phenomenon in a natural context with a descriptive and exploratory purpose guided the choice to favor a methodology like the Enhance Critical Incident Technique (Butterfield et al., 2009). This method is often used to help understand and describe issues or obstacles people face, understand success or failure situations, and study effective and ineffective ways of taking action. The results of this research show that, overall, in making use of digital technologies, the counsellors made more conventional way to conduct career counselling. They have maintained a certain "status quo", that is, they transfer while adjusting somewhat, the professional competencies acquired from initial training and experience and thus reproduce what they were used to do face to face, favoring the use of videoconferencing and, to a lesser extent, the telephone. We also note that these professionals, subject to a code of ethics, are questioning the way and the merits of intervening by using these intervention methods at distance. Many ethical reflections have shed light on the transfer from face-to-face practice to practice at distance. We have mentioned that several authors see here a missed opportunity to "transform" their practice by further integrating the use of digital technologies (Goddard, 2021; Kettunen et al., 2020; Kettunen and Sampson, 2019). However, without going through continuing education, formal or informal, it could be more difficult for many career counsellors to approach remote support in a different way than to only transfer and minimally adjust their professional competencies acquired from initial and continuing training and experience. As Goddard (2021) suggests, it is necessary to help practitioners to anticipate and develop a form of "intentional" attitude to create interventions or a way of intervening that integrates the various digital technologies available to career counsellors.

    La dialyse péritonéale (DP) permet au patient insuffisant rénal terminal de réaliser son traitement de dialyse en autonomie à son domicile. Amia avec Sharesource est un appareil de DP (cycleur) innovant incluant une communication via une plateforme connectée permettant la révision à distance par l'équipe traitante des données et alarmes de la séance. L'objectif de ce mémoire est de présenter la dialyse à domicile, de la situer dans le contexte social et économique actuel, de présenter la technologie Amia avec le monitorage à distance Sharesource et déterminer via une étude si cette technologie permet de diminuer le nombre de complications, de visites hospitalières imprévues, d'appels entre le patient et l'équipe traitante, et d'hospitalisations. L'appréciation des patients ainsi que l'évolution de la cohorte en DP étaient également étudiées. Cette étude prospective, menée au CHU de Québec, Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec, porte sur l'ensemble des patients ayant débuté la DP avec le cycleur Amia avec Sharesource entre juin 2019 et Août 2021 et comparé à une cohorte avec cycleur standard (HomeChoice) des 2 années précédentes. Les données étaient collectées à l'inclusion et à 3, 6, 9, 12 mois. Les résultats des 50 patients du groupe Amia sont comparés aux 60 patients du groupe standard ayant des caractéristiques de populations comparables. On observe une réduction du nombre de visites imprévues, d'hospitalisations et d'appels patients/équipe traitante, mais non significative cependant (respectivement p=0,76, p=0,56, et p=0,24) Il n'y avait pas de différence en terme de nombre de complications. Le score d'appréciation était excellent et la cohorte de DP a pu être maintenue malgré le contexte pandémique de SARS-COV2. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) allows patients with end-stage renal failure to carry out their dialysis treatment independently in the comfort of their home. Amia with Sharesource is an innovative PD device (cycler) with a bidirectional communication system via a connected platform allowing remote review by the treating team (nurses and doctors) of data and alarms for each PD session. The aim of this work is to present home dialysis, place it into social and economic context, present the Amia with Sharesource distance monitoring technology and determine with a study if this technology can reduce the number of complications, unplanned hospital visits, calls between the patient and the treating team, and hospitalizations. The appreciation of the patients as well as the evolution of the PD cohort were also studied. This prospective study, conducted at the University Hospital of Québec, Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec, includes all patients who started PD with the Amia cycler with Sharesource between June 2019 and August 2021. This Amia group was compared to a cohort using the standard cycler (HomeChoice) of the previous 2 years. Data were collected at baseline and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. The data of the 50 patients in the Amia group were compared to the 60 patients in the standard group with comparable population characteristics. A reduction in the number of unplanned visits, hospitalizations and patient/treating team calls was observed, but was however not statistically significant (respectively p=0.76, p=0.56, and p=0.24). There was no difference in the 2 groups complication rates. The appreciation score was excellent, and the PD cohort could be maintained despite the pandemic context of SARS-COV2.

    La pandémie de COVID-19 a été un sujet de discussion important sur les réseaux dans les dernières années. Le grand nombre de messages qui y ont circulé ont facilité la dissémination de fausses nouvelles au sujet des vaccins et ont contribué à la création d'un environnement d'échanges en ligne toxique. Cette réalité a mis en évidence l'importance de bien comprendre comment l'information circule à travers les discussions publiques en ligne, dans le but de faciliter la diffusion de messages positifs, tout en limitant la propagation de fausses nouvelles. Dans ce mémoire, une nouvelle méthode permettant d'extraire la structure de conversations en ligne au sujet de la COVID-19 est développée et présentée. Cette méthode est basée sur l'entraînement de modèles cachés de Markov, initialisés à partir d'une stratégie de biclustering d'importants attributs des messages. Cette méthode est mise en application sur un jeu de données de conversations Facebook en lien avec la COVID-19, ce qui permet de démontrer qu'elle parvient à extraire la structure des conversations de manière efficace, tout en identifiant les principaux thèmes des messages. De plus, on démontre comment le diagramme de transition des conversations extrait grâce à la méthode peut être utilisé pour simuler les impacts de différentes stratégies de modérations, ce qui permet de facilement développer et tester de nouvelles stratégies pour limiter la circulation de messages nocifs. Bien que la méthode présentée dans ce mémoire se concentre sur les conversations en lien avec la pandémie de COVID-19, elle demeure suffisamment générale pour pouvoir être appliquée sur des données obtenues lors de futures pandémies ou autres crises similaires, ou pour développer de meilleures pratiques de communication sécuritaires pour les communautés en ligne de manière générale. The COVID-19 pandemic was an important topic of discussion on online social networks (OSNs). The large volume of messages exchanged has facilitated the spread of misinformation surrounding vaccines and created a toxic online environment. This has highlighted the importance of understanding how information flows in public online discussions in order to facilitate the dissemination of positive messages and factual information in the future. In this thesis, we propose a novel unsupervised method to discover the structure of online COVID-19-related conversations. Our method trains a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) initialized from a biclustering of the messages' features. We apply our method on Facebook conversations following COVID-19 news items, and show that it can effectively extract the conversation structure and discover the main themes of the messages. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the conversation graph discovered can be used to simulate the impact of different moderation strategies, which makes it possible to easily develop and test new strategies to limit the spread of harmful messages. Although our work in this thesis focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic, the methodology is general enough to be applied to handle communications during future pandemics and other crises, or to develop better practices for online community moderation in general.

    Ce mémoire porte sur les effets de la crise sanitaire de la COVID-19 et des mesures prises par les gouvernements français et québécois pour freiner sa propagation sur les travailleuses du sexe (TDS). Bien que les enjeux liés à la stigmatisation et la criminalisation des TDS sont déjà bien documentés dans la littérature féministe pro-TDS, ils n'ont encore été que très peu étudiés dans le contexte de la pandémie de la COVID-19. L'objectif de cette recherche est donc d'examiner les effets de la pandémie sur les TDS au prisme de la stigmatisation et du déni de reconnaissance (Fraser, 2011) dont elles font l'objet. Pour ce faire, des témoignages de TDS produits durant la pandémie et diffusés dans les médias traditionnels au Québec et en France, dont la presse écrite francophone, ainsi que sur les réseaux sociaux et YouTube ont été recueillis. À cela s'ajoutent des prises de parole d'organismes par et pour les TDS diffusés durant la même période, ainsi que des rapports de recherche concernant les effets de la pandémie sur les populations stigmatisées. Prenant appui sur les concepts de stigmatisation et de déni de reconnaissance, l'analyse identifie deux grands thèmes : 1) celui de la stigmatisation des TDS révélée et amplifiée par la pandémie et 2) celui des difficultés financières importantes mais néanmoins largement ignorées qu'ont vécues les TDS pendant la pandémie. Les résultats de l'analyse montrent que la surveillance et la répression policières se sont accentuées durant la pandémie et qu'elles ont particulièrement affectées les TDS qui pouvaient difficilement respecter les mesures sanitaires dans l'exercice de leur activité. Cela leur a causé beaucoup de stress, en plus de renforcer l'isolement social vécu par certaines et de rendre leurs conditions de travail moins sécuritaires. Puisqu'il leur était plus difficile voire impossible de continuer à travailler au plus fort de la crise sanitaire, les TDS ont également souffert financièrement et elles n'ont pas eu droit aux aides financières d'urgence offertes par les États français, québécois et canadien. L'oubli ou l'exclusion des TDS dans les programmes d'aide durant la pandémie atteste du déni de reconnaissance dont elles font l'objet, elles qui ne sont pas conçues comme des travailleuses ordinaires, ni même comme des « vies pleurables » (Butler, 2009). This thesis focuses on the effects of the COVID-19 health crisis and the sanitary measures taken by the French and Quebec governments on sex workers (SW). Although the pro-sex feminist literature has already well documented the issues related to the stigmatization and criminalization of SW, these issues have still been little studied in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this research is therefore to examine the effects of the pandemic on SW through the lens of their stigmatization and denial of recognition (Fraser, 2011). To do this, testimonials from SW produced during the pandemic and broadcasted in traditional media in Quebec and France, including the French-speaking print media, as well as on social media and YouTube, were collected. In addition, statements from SW organizations broadcasted during the same period, as well as research reports concerning the effects of the pandemic on stigmatized populations were also collected. Drawing upon the concepts of stigmatization and denial of recognition, the analysis identifies two main themes: 1) the stigmatization of SW revealed and amplified by the pandemic, and 2) the significant but nevertheless largely ignored financial difficulties that the SW experienced during the pandemic. The results of the analysis show that police surveillance and repression have increased during the pandemic and that they have particularly affected SW who could hardly comply with health measures while working. This caused them a lot of stress, in addition to reinforcing the social isolation experienced by some and making their working conditions less safe. Since it was more difficult or even impossible for them to work at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, SW suffered financially but were not eligible to the emergency financial aid offered by the French, Quebec and Canadian states. The omission or exclusion of SW from the aid programs during the pandemic shows the denial of recognition of SW who are not seen as ordinary workers, nor even as "grievable lives" (Butler, 2009)

    Background: During the height of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the test-negative design (TND) was extensively used in many countries to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE). Typically, the TND involves the recruitment of care-seeking individuals who meet a common clinical case definition. All participants are then tested for an infection of interest. Objectives: To review and describe the variation in TND methodology, and disclosure of potential biases, as applied to the evaluation of COVID-19 VE during the early vaccination phase of the pandemic. Methods: We conducted a systematic review by searching four biomedical databases using defined keywords to identify peer-reviewed articles published between January 1, 2020, and January 25, 2022. We included only original articles that employed a TND to estimate VE of COVID-19 vaccines in which cases and controls were evaluated based on SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test results. Results: We identified 96 studies, 35 of which met the defined criteria. Most studies were from North America (16 studies) and targeted the general population (28 studies). Outcome case definitions were based primarily on COVID-19-like symptoms; however, several papers did not consider or specify symptoms. Cases and controls had the same inclusion criteria in only half of the studies. Most studies relied upon administrative or hospital databases assembled for a different (non-evaluation) clinical purpose. Potential unmeasured confounding (20 studies), misclassification of current SARS-CoV-2 infection (16 studies) and selection bias (10 studies) were disclosed as limitations by some studies. Conclusion: We observed potentially meaningful deviations from the validated design in the application of the TND during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the digital shift in higher education and forced university faculty to transform their courses into a blended or online modality to comply with current public health measures. Many instructors have implemented blended online courses, which combine synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning activities. The purpose of this study is to document university students’ learning experiences in blended online courses during the pandemic, and to identify instructional strategies to support student engagement in these courses. It adopts a mixed-methods research strategy in which data were collected through questionnaires from students who took a blended online course in the summer semester of 2020, in a variety of disciplines and academic cycles at four Quebec universities (n = 482). Following the analysis of student responses to open-ended questions, five recurring themes were identified: the enhancement of student-student interactions, the dynamism of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, the structured presentation of the course, the explanations and feedback from instructors, and the accessibility and involvement of instructors. For each theme, suggestions from student feedback are provided to facilitate student engagement in blended online courses.

    We develop a new method to locally cluster curves and discover functional motifs, that is, typical shapes that may recur several times along and across the curves capturing important local characteristics. In order to identify these shared curve portions, our method leverages ideas from functional data analysis (joint clustering and alignment of curves), bioinformatics (local alignment through the extension of high similarity seeds) and fuzzy clustering (curves belonging to more than one cluster, if they contain more than one typical shape). It can employ various dissimilarity measures and incorporate derivatives in the discovery process, thus exploiting complex facets of shapes. We demonstrate the performance of our method with an extensive simulation study, and show how it generalizes other clustering methods for functional data. Finally, we provide real data applications to Italian Covid-19 death curves and Omics data related to mutagenesis. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

    La dernière décennie est caractérisée par l'émergence de plusieurs programmes sportifs visant à former les intervenants sur le développement et le transfert des habiletés de vie. Toutefois, peu de programmes ont misé sur une approche collaborative entre les intervenants pour y arriver, notamment dans le contexte du sport scolaire au secondaire. L'objectif général de la thèse était d'approfondir la compréhension du processus de développement et de transfert des habiletés de vie en sport scolaire du point de vue des chercheurs, des intervenants, des administrateurs et des élèves-athlètes à travers la participation au programme longitudinal Gagnant pour la vie. Ce programme visait à favoriser le développement et le transfert de cinq habiletés de vie, c'est-à-dire la Fixation d'objectifs, la Concentration, les Saines habitudes alimentaires, les Comportements sécuritaires et la Récupération physique et mentale. La thèse est constituée de trois articles scientifiques. L'article 1 a pour objectif d'explorer, à l'aide d'entretiens semi-structurés, l'expérience d'intervenants (c.-à-d. les entraîneurs et les enseignants) et celle d'élèves-athlètes suite à leur première année de participation au programme. Plus précisément, il est question de l'expérience des intervenants dans l'enseignement et le transfert des habiletés de vie ainsi que de l'expérience des élèves-athlètes dans l'apprentissage et le transfert des habiletés de vie. Les résultats indiquent que les intervenants ont facilité le développement et le transfert des habiletés de vie en utilisant différentes stratégies en lien avec le caractère explicite du programme (p. ex. organiser des leçons, utiliser des outils du programme, discuter du transfert). Néanmoins, les expériences des intervenants et des élèves-athlètes suggèrent que certains facteurs ont influencé la capacité à développer avec succès les habiletés de vie et les transférer entre le contexte sportif et scolaire. L'article 2 a pour objectif d'examiner les défis et les succès rencontrés par l'équipe de recherche et les administrateurs dans la mise en œuvre du programme à l'intérieur d'une recherche-action participative longitudinale (c.-à-d. trois ans). La perspective de l'équipe de recherche est issue de discussions et réflexions entre les membres, alors que la perspective des administrateurs est issue d'entretiens semi-structurés. Plus précisément, les perspectives des deux partis sont présentées à travers les cycles de la recherche-action participative (c.-à-d. planifier, agir, observer et réfléchir au changement de pratiques). En ce qui concerne les défis, l'équipe de recherche a soulevé différents facteurs propres au contexte scolaire (p. ex. roulement de personnel, surcharge de travail) et l'arrivée de la pandémie COVID-19. Les administrateurs, quant à eux, ont souligné différents facteurs en lien avec la participation des intervenants (p. ex. manque de temps et manque d'engagement des enseignants). En ce qui concerne les succès, l'équipe de recherche a soulevé différentes initiatives prises sur le terrain dans la mise en œuvre du programme (p. ex. ateliers sur les habiletés de vie, modelage). Les administrateurs, quant à eux, ont mentionné la formule clé en main du programme (c.-à-d. structure, contenu et alignement avec la mission de l'école) et la disponibilité des chercheurs, ce qui a permis un changement progressif des pratiques au fil du temps. L'article 3 a pour objectif d'examiner à l'aide de questionnaires et de façon longitudinale sur trois ans le développement des habiletés de vie des élèves-athlètes à travers leur participation au programme Gagnant pour la vie. Les élèves-athlètes ont rapporté des scores plus élevés pour la sous-échelle de la Fixation d'objectifs entre les temps 1, 2 et 3 ainsi que pour la sous-échelle de la Récupération sociale entre les temps 1 et 2. À l'inverse, les élèves-athlètes ont rapporté des scores plus faibles sur la sous-échelle de la Qualité du sommeil entre les temps 2 et 3. Il y avait également une interaction significative entre l'âge de départ des élèves-athlètes dans le programme et certaines sous-échelles (c.-à-d. sous-échelles de la Fixation d'objectifs, de la Concentration et de la Reconcentration, des Comportements des entraîneurs, de la Qualité du sommeil et de la Récupération sociale). Dans leur ensemble, les résultats de la thèse permettent de faire ressortir des contributions sur le plan conceptuel, méthodologique et pratique qui peuvent être considérées afin d'optimiser les futurs programmes sur les habiletés de vie. The last decade has been characterized by the emergence of several sport-based programs aimed at training stakeholders on the development and transfer of life skills. However, few programs have relied on a collaborative approach between stakeholders to achieve this, particularly in the context of high school sports. The purpose of this thesis was to deepen our understanding of the process of life skill development and transfer in the context of school sports from the perspective of the researchers, stakeholders, administrators, and student-athletes through participation in the longitudinal program Winner for Life. This program promotes the development and transfer of five life skills, namely Goal Setting, Concentration, Healthy Eating Habits, Safety Behavior, as well as Physical and Mental Recovery. The present thesis is composed of three scientific articles. Article 1 explores the experiences of stakeholders (i.e., coaches, teachers) and student-athletes following their first year of participation in the life skills program using semi-structured interviews. More specifically, the experiences of stakeholders in the teaching and transfer of life skills as well as the experiences of student-athletes in the learning and transfer of life skills are discussed. Results suggest that stakeholders facilitated the teaching and transfer of life skills using different strategies in line with the explicit nature of the program (e.g., organizing lessons, using program tools, discussing transfer). Nevertheless, the experiences of stakeholders and student-athletes suggested that certain factors influenced the capacity to successfully develop life skills and transfer them between the school and sport context. Article 2 examines the challenges and successes encountered by the research team and the high school administrators in implementing the life skills program within a longitudinal participatory action research (i.e., three years). The research team's perspective originated from discussions and reflections between members. The administrators' perspective emanated from thematic data analysis following semi-structured interviews. The perceptions of each party are presented through the cycles of participatory action research (i.e., planning for change, implementing and observing change, reflecting on change). In terms of challenges, the research team raised different factors specific to the school context (e.g., staff turnover, work overload) and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The administrators discussed challenges related to program participation (e.g., lack of time, lack of engagement from their teachers). In terms of successes, the research team highlighted on-ground initiatives during programme implementation (e.g., workshops on life skills, modelling). The administrators highlighted successes related to the program's structure, pedagogical content and mission as well as the availability of researchers, which resulted in progressively changing practices over time. Article 3 examines the life skills development of student-athletes throughout their participation in the three-year longitudinal program entitled Winner for Life using questionnaires. Results revealed that student-athletes reported higher scores on the Goal Setting subscale between times 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Social Recovery subscale between times 1 and 2. On the contrary, student-athletes reported lower scores on the Sleep Quality subscale between times 2 and 3. There was also a significant interaction between the starting age of student-athletes in the program and certain subscales (i.e., Goal Setting, Concentration and Reconcentration, Coaches' Safety Behaviors, Sleep Quality and Social Recovery). Considering these results, the conceptual, methodological, and practical contributions of the thesis are discussed to improve the influence of future sport-based life skills programs.

    La situation de pandémie COVID-19 et les mesures sanitaires qui en découlent ont grandement affecté la population québécoise depuis mars 2020. Plusieurs sphères de la vie des Québécois ont été bouleversées, incluant leurs habitudes alimentaires. Plusieurs études ont évalué les impacts à court terme, soit pendant la première période de confinement, de la pandémie COVID-19 sur l'alimentation. Généralement, une amélioration de la qualité alimentaire semble être observée par la majorité des études. Toutefois, les impacts à plus long terme de la pandémie sur l'alimentation sont peu étudiés. De plus, les seules études disponibles sur le sujet fournissent des données limitées par le fait qu'elles ont été obtenues de manière rétrospective et qu'elles sont basées sur des perceptions de changement. Il s'avère essentiel de documenter les impacts à plus long terme de la pandémie afin de mieux comprendre et de mieux agir sur les comportements individuels, sociaux et environnementaux qui influencent les choix alimentaires de la population dans ce contexte sanitaire inédit et dans de futurs contextes similaires. L'objectif de ce projet de maitrise est d'évaluer les impacts de la pandémie COVID-19 et des mesures sanitaires qui y en découlent sur les habitudes alimentaires au Québec. Plus spécifiquement, nous documenterons les changements dans la qualité de l'alimentation telle que mesurée par le Healthy Eating Food Index (HEFI)-2019 dans un échantillon de plus de 4000 Québécois participant au projet NutriQuébec entre juin 2019 et février 2022. Les changements dans la consommation de certaines catégories d'aliments comme les légumes et fruits, les produits à grains entiers, et les aliments ne faisant pas partie des catégories recommandées dans le Guide alimentaire canadien 2019 seront également documentés. Les résultats montrent que dans cette population, le score HEFI-2019 moyen avant la pandémie, c'est-à-dire avant le 12 mars 2020, était de 48,3 (IC (intervalle de confiance) à 95% 46,8 à 49,8) sur un maximum de 80 points. Le score HEFI-2019 moyen est resté inchangé durant la première année de la pandémie (mars 2020 à février 2021), mais a diminué de 1,4 point (IC à 95% -2,4 à -0,4) au cours de la deuxième année de la pandémie (mars 2021 à février 2022). La légère diminution du score HEFI-2019 au cours de la deuxième année de la pandémie a été observée en raison des changements dans les scores des composantes des légumes et fruits (-0,5 point; IC 95% -1,0 à -0,1), des aliments protéinés (-0,1 point; IC 95% -0,2 à -0,0) et du sodium (-0,3 point; IC 95% -0,6 à 0,0). Malgré une faible diminution de la qualité alimentaire, la pandémie COVID-19 apparait comme un nouvel obstacle à une saine alimentation. The COVID-19 pandemic situation and the resulting health measures have greatly affected the Quebec population since March 2020. Several spheres of Quebecers' lives have been turned upside down, including their eating habits. Several studies have evaluated the short-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on diet during the first lockdown period. Generally, an improvement in food quality seems to be observed by many studies. However, the longer-term impacts of the pandemic on diet quality are poorly studied. In addition, the few studies available on the topic provide data that are limited by the fact that they were obtained in a cross-sectional, retrospective design and based on perceptions of change. It is essential to document the longer-term impacts of the pandemic to better understand and act on the individual, social and environmental behaviours that influence people's food choices in this unprecedented health context. The objective of this master's project was to evaluate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting health measures on eating habits in the province of Quebec. More specifically, we will document changes in diet quality as measured by the Healthy Eating Food Index (HEFI)-2019 in a sample of over 4000 Quebecers participating in the NutriQuébec project between June 2019 and February 2022. Changes in the consumption of certain food categories such as vegetables and fruits, whole grain products, and foods not included in the categories recommended in Canada's Food Guide 2019 will also be documented. In this population, the mean HEFI-2019 score before the pandemic (before March 12, 2020) was 48.3 (95% CI 46.8 to 49.8) out of a maximum of 80 points. The mean HEFI-2019 score remained unchanged during the first year of the pandemic (March 2020 to February 2021), but decreased by 1.4 points (95% CI -2.4 to -0.4) during the second year of the pandemic (March 2021 to February 2022). The slight decrease in HEFI-2019 score during the second year of the pandemic was mainly due to changes in the component scores for vegetables and fruits (-0.5 points, 95% CI -1.0 to -0.1), protein foods (-0.1 points, 95% CI -0.2 to -0.0), and sodium (-0.3 points, 95% CI -0.6 to 0.0). Despite a small decrease in food quality, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to be a new barrier to healthy eating.

    Quelles sont les expériences des étudiants universitaires en situation de handicap concernant l'accès aux accommodements scolaires pendant la pandémie de COVID-19 au Québec ? Malgré l'augmentation des inscriptions d'étudiants universitaires handicapés, les études continuent de montrer un écart croissant dans leurs résultats scolaires par rapport à leurs pairs (Santos et al., 2019 ; Toutain, 2019). Avant la pandémie, la plupart des établissements d'enseignement inclusifs étaient équipés pour répondre à des besoins d'accessibilité déjà connus, comme l'ont indiqué des études antérieures de McGregor (2016), Moh (2012), Erten (2011) et Cawthon (2010). À cette époque, il existait une compréhension générale des défis ou des obstacles existants souvent rencontrés par ces étudiants, et l'un des problèmes les plus courants était lié à la fourniture ou à l'accès aux accommodements scolaires; les expériences rapportées étant assorties d'incohérences en fonction de plusieurs facteurs de l'environnement universitaire ou de la condition de l'étudiant (Somma & Bennett, 2020). Un examen supplémentaire de la littérature révèle également que la pandémie de COVID-19 continue d'exacerber les pressions sur ces étudiants, car les changements dans les modalités d'apprentissage, de l'enseignement en ligne à l'enseignement en face à face et hybride, sont considérés comme conduisant souvent à une négligence involontaire de ces groupes dans l'environnement d'apprentissage (Greta, 2020 ; Soleterre, 2020 ; Sutton, 2020). En raison des défis identifiés en matière d'accessibilité avant la pandémie, l'ère COVID-19 soulève la question de savoir si ce qui constituait auparavant des services de soutien scolaire appropriés pour des handicaps spécifiques reste cohérent dans son efficacité à soutenir ces étudiants devant cette nouvelle réalité académique. Par conséquent, la présente étude, dont le cadre théorique est fondé sur l'approche par les capacités de Sen (1994), s'est concentrée sur l'exploration des expériences individuelles en matière d'accès aux accommodements scolaires en raison de la pandémie dans une université québécoise francophone. L'étude qualitative basée sur l'analyse thématique est utilisée pour comprendre l'expérience des étudiants avec les processus et l'accès aux accommodements scolaires; il explore de manière unique leurs récits basés sur des enquêtes et des entretiens, tout en examinant simultanément leurs aptitudes uniques et leurs conditions particulières ont un impact sur ces expériences. La méthodologie comprend l'exploration des récits des étudiants participants, sur la base d'une enquête démographique et d'un entretien ultérieur (annexes D et E) pour recueillir des données avant de mener une analyse approfondie d'un logiciel qualitatif (NVivo). L'utilisation d'un processus d'analyse thématique en six phases (comme indiqué dans la Figure 5) par Braun & Clarke (2006, 2021) a été adoptée pour identifier les thèmes dans les différents récits rassemblés à partir des transcriptions des entretiens. Enfin, les résultats de l'étude ont montré que la plupart des étudiants ont trouvé que l'université cible était un environnement d'apprentissage inclusif, avec un accès adéquat aux accommodements scolaires malgré la pandémie De même, la plupart des participants ont préféré l'apprentissage en ligne aux modalités en face à face ou hybrides car elles leur permettaient d'accéder plus facilement à l'apprentissage et de gérer leurs conditions simultanément depuis leur domicile. Cependant, certains étudiants ont identifié des défis dans l'apprentissage en ligne comme la perte de la socialisation par les pairs et un impact négatif sur leur santé mentale. En outre, certains participants ont constaté que certains enseignants n'étaient pas disposés à autoriser l'utilisation d'aménagements scolaires dans leurs cours. Cependant, tous les participants ont déclaré avoir eu des expériences positives avec lede soutien despar les pairs dans l'université cible. What are the experiences of university students with disabilities regarding access to academic accommodations during the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec? Despite rising enrollments of university students with disabilities, studies show an increasing gap in their academic achievements compared to peers (Santos et al., 2019; Toutain, 2019). Prior to the pandemic, most inclusive education institutions were equipped to cater to previously known accessibility needs, as was identified in earlier studies by McGregor (2016), Moh (2012), Erten (2011) & Cawthon (2010). At that time, there was a general understanding of existing challenges or barriers often experienced by these students, with one of the most common issues related to the provision or access to academic accommodations, with students relaying inconsistencies in their experiences, depending on several factors in the academic environment or the condition of the student (Somma & Bennett, 2020). Further, an additional review of literature likewise revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate pressures on these students, as changes in learning modalities from online to in-person and hybrid instructions are seemingly leading to an inadvertent oversight of these groups in their learning environment (Greta, 2020; Soleterre, 2020; Sutton, 2020). Due to previously identified challenges to accessibility prior to the pandemic, the COVID-19 era brings on the argument on if what previously constituted appropriate academic support services for specific disabilities remains consistent in its efficacy for supporting these students during the pandemic. Therefore, the current study grounding its theoretical framework on the Capability Approach by Sen (1994), explored individual experiences on access to critical learning supports (resources' conversion to functions), especially due to the changes from the pandemic, at a Francophone Quebec University. The qualitative study uses thematic analysis to explore students' narratives on processes and access to academic accommodations. The data instruments are based on a survey and interview, which examined their unique capabilities against their present academic accommodations, using their conditions to gauge accessibility to their experiences. The methodology encompassed an exploration of the narrations of participating students based on a demographic survey and a subsequent interview (Appendix D and E) to gather data prior to conducting the research study using Qualitative software (NVivo) for an in-depth analysis. The suggested use of a six-phased thematic (as shown in Figure 5) analysis process by Braun & Clarke (2006,2021) was adopted to identify themes across the various narratives as pooled from the interview transcripts. Finally, the study's outcome showed that most students found that the target University was an inclusive learning environment with adequate academic accommodations despite the pandemic. Likewise, most participants preferred online learning to face-to-face or hybrid modalities, as it better supported their access to learning and medical conditions. However, some students identified online learning with the loss of peer socialization and negatively impacting their mental health. In addition, some participants observed that specific instructors were unwilling to allow academic accommodations in their classrooms. Nevertheless, all participants expressed having supportive peer experiences at the target University.

    Les technologies numériques sont intégrées à la pratique des conseillers.ères œuvrant dans le domaine de l'orientation depuis plus de 40 ans (Sampson, et al., 2020). Toutefois l'accompagnement à distance de ses clients est un phénomène plus récent. Peu de conseillers et conseillères d'orientation accompagnaient à distance leurs clients avant l'arrivée de la pandémie de COVID-19 (Ozenne et al., 2018; Turcotte et Goyer, 2017). La majorité des recherches portant sur l'accompagnement ont été menées auprès de personnes conseillères en counseling personnel et psychothérapie qui utilisent déjà des modalités d'intervention à distance. Dans ce contexte, nous nous sommes interrogés sur la manière dont des conseillers.ères du domaine de l'orientation ont transposé des savoirs (Tardif, 1999) ou construit des savoirs professionnels particuliers (Mialaret, 2011; Thievenaz, 2013)? À certains égards, ces conseillers.ères qui se sont aventurés.es dans ces nouvelles modalités disposaient donc de peu de savoirs homologués (Schön, 1994) dans le cadre de leur formation formelle pour intervenir à distance. Ils.elles ont fait face à de nouvelles situations et se sont demandés.es s'il était possible de transposer ce qu'ils avaient appris à faire dans les entretiens en face à face à de nouveaux environnements que les technologies de l'information et des communications proposent. C'est dans cette perspective que cette étude avait pour objectif général de recueillir les perceptions et les réflexions de personnes conseillères d'orientation sur les savoirs professionnels qu'elles utilisent dans leurs interventions menées à distance. Cette recherche de nature « narrative et phénoménologique » (Creswell, 2003) porte sur les récits de 27 personnes conseillères d'orientation en situation de transfert et de production de savoirs d'accompagnement. Le désir de comprendre un phénomène complexe en contexte naturel avec une finalité descriptive et exploratoire a guidé le choix de privilégier une méthodologie qui s'apparente à la méthode améliorée des incidents critiques (Butterfield et al., 2009). On se sert souvent de la méthode des incidents critiques pour aider à comprendre et décrire des enjeux ou des obstacles auxquels font face les personnes, comprendre des situations de succès ou d'échec et étudier les manières efficaces et inefficaces d'être en action. Les résultats de cette recherche montrent que, somme toute, en faisant usage des technologies numériques, les personnes conseillères ont accompagné à distance leurs personnes clientes de la même manière qu'elles le faisaient en présentiel. Elles ont maintenu un certain « statu quo », c'est-à-dire, qu'elles transfèrent tout en ajustant quelque peu, les savoirs professionnels acquis de la formation initiale et de l'expérience et reproduisent ainsi ce qu'elles étaient habituées de faire en face à face, et ce, en privilégiant l'usage de la vidéoconférence et, dans une moindre mesure, celui du téléphone. On constate également que ces personnes professionnelles, assujetties à un code de déontologie, se questionnent sur la manière et le bien fondé d'intervenir en utilisant ces modalités d'intervention à distance. De nombreuse réflexions d'ordre déontologique ont été formulées pour éclairer le transfert d'une pratique en présentiel vers une pratique à distance. Plusieurs auteurs voient ici une opportunité manquée de « transformer » sa pratique en intégrant davantage l'utilisation des technologies numériques (Goddard, 2021 ; Kettunen et al., 2020 ; Kettunen et Sampson, 2019). Toutefois, sans un passage par la formation continue, formelle ou informelle, il pourrait être plus difficile, pour de nombreuses personnes conseillères, d'aborder l'accompagnement à distance de manière différente que de seulement transférer et ajuster minimalement ses savoirs professionnels acquis en formation initiale et continue et dans l'exercice de leur profession. Comme l'avance Goddard (2021), il faut aider les personnes intervenantes à anticiper et à développer une forme d'attitude « intentionnelle » de créer des interventions ou une manière d'intervenir qui intègre les diverses technologies numériques mises à la disposition des personnes conseillères. Digital technologies have been integrated into the practice of counsellors working in the field of career guidance for more than 40 years (Sampson, et al., 2020). However, counselling at distance for his clients is a more recent phenomenon. Few guidance counsellors supported their clients at distance before the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic (Ozenne et al., 2018; Turcotte and Goyer, 2017). Most of the research on supported interventions at distance has been conducted with personal counselling and psychotherapy counsellors who already use intervention at distance modalities. In this context, we wondered about the way counsellors in the field of guidance have transposed competencies (Tardif, 1999) or built specific professional competencies (Mialaret, 2011; Thievenaz, 2013)? In some respects, these counsellors who ventured into these new methods therefore had little legitimated knowledge (Schön, 1994) as part of their formal training to intervene at a distance. They inevitably faced new situations and wondered if it was possible to transpose what they had learned to do in face-to-face interviews to new environments such as information technology and communications propose. It is in this perspective that the general objective of this study was to collect the perceptions and reflections of guidance counsellors on their commitment to a practice of distance guidance counselling, based on their reading of the professional competencies that they use in their interventions. This " narrative and phenomenological " research (Creswell, 2003) focuses on the stories of 27 guidance counsellors in a situation of transfer and production of career counselling competencies. The desire to understand a complex phenomenon in a natural context with a descriptive and exploratory purpose guided the choice to favor a methodology like the Enhance Critical Incident Technique (Butterfield et al., 2009). This method is often used to help understand and describe issues or obstacles people face, understand success or failure situations, and study effective and ineffective ways of taking action. The results of this research show that, overall, in making use of digital technologies, the counsellors made more conventional way to conduct career counselling. They have maintained a certain "status quo", that is, they transfer while adjusting somewhat, the professional competencies acquired from initial training and experience and thus reproduce what they were used to do face to face, favoring the use of videoconferencing and, to a lesser extent, the telephone. We also note that these professionals, subject to a code of ethics, are questioning the way and the merits of intervening by using these intervention methods at distance. Many ethical reflections have shed light on the transfer from face-to-face practice to practice at distance. We have mentioned that several authors see here a missed opportunity to "transform" their practice by further integrating the use of digital technologies (Goddard, 2021; Kettunen et al., 2020; Kettunen and Sampson, 2019). However, without going through continuing education, formal or informal, it could be more difficult for many career counsellors to approach remote support in a different way than to only transfer and minimally adjust their professional competencies acquired from initial and continuing training and experience. As Goddard (2021) suggests, it is necessary to help practitioners to anticipate and develop a form of "intentional" attitude to create interventions or a way of intervening that integrates the various digital technologies available to career counsellors.

    La dialyse péritonéale (DP) permet au patient insuffisant rénal terminal de réaliser son traitement de dialyse en autonomie à son domicile. Amia avec Sharesource est un appareil de DP (cycleur) innovant incluant une communication via une plateforme connectée permettant la révision à distance par l'équipe traitante des données et alarmes de la séance. L'objectif de ce mémoire est de présenter la dialyse à domicile, de la situer dans le contexte social et économique actuel, de présenter la technologie Amia avec le monitorage à distance Sharesource et déterminer via une étude si cette technologie permet de diminuer le nombre de complications, de visites hospitalières imprévues, d'appels entre le patient et l'équipe traitante, et d'hospitalisations. L'appréciation des patients ainsi que l'évolution de la cohorte en DP étaient également étudiées. Cette étude prospective, menée au CHU de Québec, Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec, porte sur l'ensemble des patients ayant débuté la DP avec le cycleur Amia avec Sharesource entre juin 2019 et Août 2021 et comparé à une cohorte avec cycleur standard (HomeChoice) des 2 années précédentes. Les données étaient collectées à l'inclusion et à 3, 6, 9, 12 mois. Les résultats des 50 patients du groupe Amia sont comparés aux 60 patients du groupe standard ayant des caractéristiques de populations comparables. On observe une réduction du nombre de visites imprévues, d'hospitalisations et d'appels patients/équipe traitante, mais non significative cependant (respectivement p=0,76, p=0,56, et p=0,24) Il n'y avait pas de différence en terme de nombre de complications. Le score d'appréciation était excellent et la cohorte de DP a pu être maintenue malgré le contexte pandémique de SARS-COV2. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) allows patients with end-stage renal failure to carry out their dialysis treatment independently in the comfort of their home. Amia with Sharesource is an innovative PD device (cycler) with a bidirectional communication system via a connected platform allowing remote review by the treating team (nurses and doctors) of data and alarms for each PD session. The aim of this work is to present home dialysis, place it into social and economic context, present the Amia with Sharesource distance monitoring technology and determine with a study if this technology can reduce the number of complications, unplanned hospital visits, calls between the patient and the treating team, and hospitalizations. The appreciation of the patients as well as the evolution of the PD cohort were also studied. This prospective study, conducted at the University Hospital of Québec, Hôtel-Dieu-de-Québec, includes all patients who started PD with the Amia cycler with Sharesource between June 2019 and August 2021. This Amia group was compared to a cohort using the standard cycler (HomeChoice) of the previous 2 years. Data were collected at baseline and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. The data of the 50 patients in the Amia group were compared to the 60 patients in the standard group with comparable population characteristics. A reduction in the number of unplanned visits, hospitalizations and patient/treating team calls was observed, but was however not statistically significant (respectively p=0.76, p=0.56, and p=0.24). There was no difference in the 2 groups complication rates. The appreciation score was excellent, and the PD cohort could be maintained despite the pandemic context of SARS-COV2.

    La pandémie de COVID-19 a été un sujet de discussion important sur les réseaux dans les dernières années. Le grand nombre de messages qui y ont circulé ont facilité la dissémination de fausses nouvelles au sujet des vaccins et ont contribué à la création d'un environnement d'échanges en ligne toxique. Cette réalité a mis en évidence l'importance de bien comprendre comment l'information circule à travers les discussions publiques en ligne, dans le but de faciliter la diffusion de messages positifs, tout en limitant la propagation de fausses nouvelles. Dans ce mémoire, une nouvelle méthode permettant d'extraire la structure de conversations en ligne au sujet de la COVID-19 est développée et présentée. Cette méthode est basée sur l'entraînement de modèles cachés de Markov, initialisés à partir d'une stratégie de biclustering d'importants attributs des messages. Cette méthode est mise en application sur un jeu de données de conversations Facebook en lien avec la COVID-19, ce qui permet de démontrer qu'elle parvient à extraire la structure des conversations de manière efficace, tout en identifiant les principaux thèmes des messages. De plus, on démontre comment le diagramme de transition des conversations extrait grâce à la méthode peut être utilisé pour simuler les impacts de différentes stratégies de modérations, ce qui permet de facilement développer et tester de nouvelles stratégies pour limiter la circulation de messages nocifs. Bien que la méthode présentée dans ce mémoire se concentre sur les conversations en lien avec la pandémie de COVID-19, elle demeure suffisamment générale pour pouvoir être appliquée sur des données obtenues lors de futures pandémies ou autres crises similaires, ou pour développer de meilleures pratiques de communication sécuritaires pour les communautés en ligne de manière générale. The COVID-19 pandemic was an important topic of discussion on online social networks (OSNs). The large volume of messages exchanged has facilitated the spread of misinformation surrounding vaccines and created a toxic online environment. This has highlighted the importance of understanding how information flows in public online discussions in order to facilitate the dissemination of positive messages and factual information in the future. In this thesis, we propose a novel unsupervised method to discover the structure of online COVID-19-related conversations. Our method trains a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) initialized from a biclustering of the messages' features. We apply our method on Facebook conversations following COVID-19 news items, and show that it can effectively extract the conversation structure and discover the main themes of the messages. Furthermore, we demonstrate how the conversation graph discovered can be used to simulate the impact of different moderation strategies, which makes it possible to easily develop and test new strategies to limit the spread of harmful messages. Although our work in this thesis focuses on the COVID-19 pandemic, the methodology is general enough to be applied to handle communications during future pandemics and other crises, or to develop better practices for online community moderation in general.

    Ce mémoire porte sur les effets de la crise sanitaire de la COVID-19 et des mesures prises par les gouvernements français et québécois pour freiner sa propagation sur les travailleuses du sexe (TDS). Bien que les enjeux liés à la stigmatisation et la criminalisation des TDS sont déjà bien documentés dans la littérature féministe pro-TDS, ils n'ont encore été que très peu étudiés dans le contexte de la pandémie de la COVID-19. L'objectif de cette recherche est donc d'examiner les effets de la pandémie sur les TDS au prisme de la stigmatisation et du déni de reconnaissance (Fraser, 2011) dont elles font l'objet. Pour ce faire, des témoignages de TDS produits durant la pandémie et diffusés dans les médias traditionnels au Québec et en France, dont la presse écrite francophone, ainsi que sur les réseaux sociaux et YouTube ont été recueillis. À cela s'ajoutent des prises de parole d'organismes par et pour les TDS diffusés durant la même période, ainsi que des rapports de recherche concernant les effets de la pandémie sur les populations stigmatisées. Prenant appui sur les concepts de stigmatisation et de déni de reconnaissance, l'analyse identifie deux grands thèmes : 1) celui de la stigmatisation des TDS révélée et amplifiée par la pandémie et 2) celui des difficultés financières importantes mais néanmoins largement ignorées qu'ont vécues les TDS pendant la pandémie. Les résultats de l'analyse montrent que la surveillance et la répression policières se sont accentuées durant la pandémie et qu'elles ont particulièrement affectées les TDS qui pouvaient difficilement respecter les mesures sanitaires dans l'exercice de leur activité. Cela leur a causé beaucoup de stress, en plus de renforcer l'isolement social vécu par certaines et de rendre leurs conditions de travail moins sécuritaires. Puisqu'il leur était plus difficile voire impossible de continuer à travailler au plus fort de la crise sanitaire, les TDS ont également souffert financièrement et elles n'ont pas eu droit aux aides financières d'urgence offertes par les États français, québécois et canadien. L'oubli ou l'exclusion des TDS dans les programmes d'aide durant la pandémie atteste du déni de reconnaissance dont elles font l'objet, elles qui ne sont pas conçues comme des travailleuses ordinaires, ni même comme des « vies pleurables » (Butler, 2009). This thesis focuses on the effects of the COVID-19 health crisis and the sanitary measures taken by the French and Quebec governments on sex workers (SW). Although the pro-sex feminist literature has already well documented the issues related to the stigmatization and criminalization of SW, these issues have still been little studied in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this research is therefore to examine the effects of the pandemic on SW through the lens of their stigmatization and denial of recognition (Fraser, 2011). To do this, testimonials from SW produced during the pandemic and broadcasted in traditional media in Quebec and France, including the French-speaking print media, as well as on social media and YouTube, were collected. In addition, statements from SW organizations broadcasted during the same period, as well as research reports concerning the effects of the pandemic on stigmatized populations were also collected. Drawing upon the concepts of stigmatization and denial of recognition, the analysis identifies two main themes: 1) the stigmatization of SW revealed and amplified by the pandemic, and 2) the significant but nevertheless largely ignored financial difficulties that the SW experienced during the pandemic. The results of the analysis show that police surveillance and repression have increased during the pandemic and that they have particularly affected SW who could hardly comply with health measures while working. This caused them a lot of stress, in addition to reinforcing the social isolation experienced by some and making their working conditions less safe. Since it was more difficult or even impossible for them to work at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, SW suffered financially but were not eligible to the emergency financial aid offered by the French, Quebec and Canadian states.
