Ce rapport dresse le bilan des avancées réalisées sur l’ensemble du réseau en 2022 en termes de stations actives, de prélèvements de MES et d’analyses physico-chimiques, ainsi que sur les calculs de flux de contaminants dans la Base de Données des Observatoires en Hydrologie (BDOH). L’année 2022 a permis la continuité du fonctionnement des 12 stations actives sur le Rhône et ses affluents (11 stations équipées de mesure de turbidité et de prélèvements de MES pour l’analyse des contaminants + 1 station équipée seulement de mesure de turbidité), et la production de données à ces stations. L’année 2022 a été marquée par la remise en fonctionnement de la station MesuRho, station de mesure de turbidité en mer ; ainsi que par la publication d’un article sur les méthodes et les données acquises par le réseau de mesure.

We have used temperature measurements from a number of observatories in and above Svalbard to study temperature variations, and their relation to solar activity. Sea temperatures from the mouth of Isfjorden, several ground stations as well as weather balloon measurements were used to study long-term trends of temperatures on ground and in the atmosphere. Radar and optical measurements were used to infer temperatures in the mesosphere and ionosphere. The measurements show a trend towards higher temperatures and less difference between summer and winter over the last decades. An increasing seasonal asymmetry between temperatures and season over the last decades is also observed; the day with maximum temperatures tends to occur later in the year. Ground and atmospheric temperatures were also compared to solar input energies, but no clear correlation between solar activity and temperatures on ground or in the lower atmosphere was found. We attribute the observed trends in the ground and atmospheric conditions to a combination of climate warming and local conditions such as sea currents and changes in the extension of the ice shelf. At higher altitudes, in the mesosphere and in the ionosphere, we observe a clear correlation between solar activity and temperatures, suggesting that a significant transfer of energy from the Sun and its solar wind to the upper part of the thermosphere takes place. This coupling can be explained by electromagnetic processes and enhanced Joule heating due to collisions between neutrals and ions.

The goal is to downscale levers already in EUCalc like biophysical calorie demand per person, daily calories of food wasted and the total calorie demand by population, population density, the residential and non-residential area per building type, district heating share, beneficial energy consumption (energy need) by building and appliance type, urban protected area, transport demand per capita and transport mode, occupancy and utilization rate of vehicles, a lifetime of cars and appliances, the efficiency of heating and cooling systems, vehicles, and home appliances. Furthermore, I develop approaches for downscaling emission intensities per fuel type and technology, GHG emissions per technology and fuel type associated with transportation. Finally, my duties include identifying features irrelevant to the city scale in EUCalc and the proposition of new features relevant to any Calc.

Bakgrunnen er oppdaterte krav fra Miljødirektoratet. Fokus i studien er på NOx, SO2 og støv/partikler. Det er utført lokale spredningsberegninger ved hjelp av modellen CONDEP. Regionale beregninger av konsentrasjoner og avsetning er utført med WRF-EMEP modellsystemet. En stor andel av forurensningen slippes ut fra tak. Dette kan gi turbulens og bygningsnedtrekk som igjen gir høye konsentrasjoner rett ved smelteverket og i umiddelbar nærhet. CONDEP-beregningene viser at for NO2 og støv/PM er norske grenseverdier overholdt. For SO2 kan overskridelse av grenseverdier oppstå opptil 500-600 m fra smelteverket. WRF-EMEP-beregningene viser liten påvirkning på regional skala. Av utslippene fra Finnfjord AS avsettes 16 % av nitrogen, 15 % av svovel og 12 % av PM innenfor det innerste gridet (105 x 105 km2). Det gis også anbefaling om målinger av SO2 og meteorologi for å tallfeste påvirkningen fra Finnfjord AS på omgivelsene.

Ce rapport dresse le bilan des avancées réalisées sur l’ensemble du réseau en 2022 en termes de stations actives, de prélèvements de MES et d’analyses physico-chimiques, ainsi que sur les calculs de flux de contaminants dans la Base de Données des Observatoires en Hydrologie (BDOH). L’année 2022 a permis la continuité du fonctionnement des 12 stations actives sur le Rhône et ses affluents (11 stations équipées de mesure de turbidité et de prélèvements de MES pour l’analyse des contaminants + 1 station équipée seulement de mesure de turbidité), et la production de données à ces stations. L’année 2022 a été marquée par la remise en fonctionnement de la station MesuRho, station de mesure de turbidité en mer ; ainsi que par la publication d’un article sur les méthodes et les données acquises par le réseau de mesure.

We have used temperature measurements from a number of observatories in and above Svalbard to study temperature variations, and their relation to solar activity. Sea temperatures from the mouth of Isfjorden, several ground stations as well as weather balloon measurements were used to study long-term trends of temperatures on ground and in the atmosphere. Radar and optical measurements were used to infer temperatures in the mesosphere and ionosphere. The measurements show a trend towards higher temperatures and less difference between summer and winter over the last decades. An increasing seasonal asymmetry between temperatures and season over the last decades is also observed; the day with maximum temperatures tends to occur later in the year. Ground and atmospheric temperatures were also compared to solar input energies, but no clear correlation between solar activity and temperatures on ground or in the lower atmosphere was found. We attribute the observed trends in the ground and atmospheric conditions to a combination of climate warming and local conditions such as sea currents and changes in the extension of the ice shelf. At higher altitudes, in the mesosphere and in the ionosphere, we observe a clear correlation between solar activity and temperatures, suggesting that a significant transfer of energy from the Sun and its solar wind to the upper part of the thermosphere takes place. This coupling can be explained by electromagnetic processes and enhanced Joule heating due to collisions between neutrals and ions.

The goal is to downscale levers already in EUCalc like biophysical calorie demand per person, daily calories of food wasted and the total calorie demand by population, population density, the residential and non-residential area per building type, district heating share, beneficial energy consumption (energy need) by building and appliance type, urban protected area, transport demand per capita and transport mode, occupancy and utilization rate of vehicles, a lifetime of cars and appliances, the efficiency of heating and cooling systems, vehicles, and home appliances. Furthermore, I develop approaches for downscaling emission intensities per fuel type and technology, GHG emissions per technology and fuel type associated with transportation. Finally, my duties include identifying features irrelevant to the city scale in EUCalc and the proposition of new features relevant to any Calc.

Bakgrunnen er oppdaterte krav fra Miljødirektoratet. Fokus i studien er på NOx, SO2 og støv/partikler. Det er utført lokale spredningsberegninger ved hjelp av modellen CONDEP. Regionale beregninger av konsentrasjoner og avsetning er utført med WRF-EMEP modellsystemet. En stor andel av forurensningen slippes ut fra tak. Dette kan gi turbulens og bygningsnedtrekk som igjen gir høye konsentrasjoner rett ved smelteverket og i umiddelbar nærhet. CONDEP-beregningene viser at for NO2 og støv/PM er norske grenseverdier overholdt. For SO2 kan overskridelse av grenseverdier oppstå opptil 500-600 m fra smelteverket. WRF-EMEP-beregningene viser liten påvirkning på regional skala. Av utslippene fra Finnfjord AS avsettes 16 % av nitrogen, 15 % av svovel og 12 % av PM innenfor det innerste gridet (105 x 105 km2). Det gis også anbefaling om målinger av SO2 og meteorologi for å tallfeste påvirkningen fra Finnfjord AS på omgivelsene.
