This report describes the results of an archaeological trial trench evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology on three parcels of land, all of which were adjacent to Carvers Lane, Attleborough, Norfolk, NR17 1AB (TM 0343 9513) from the 2nd to the 9th of June 2015. The archaeological work was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. in response to a pre-determination planning proposal for the construction of residential dwellings with associated access and landscaping. The aim of the work was to characterise the archaeological potential of the proposed development area. The principal result of the evaluation was the recording of a series of medieval features within the northernmost parcel of land comprising boundary ditches as well as rubbish pits. These features were associated with small assemblages of animal bone and pottery of an 11th to 14th century date. Other undated ditches and discrete features were present within the other two southernmost parcels of land however the interpretation of cropmark data which covers this part of the site suggests a post-medieval or even modern date. The finds from the northernmost parcel are indicative of agricultural activity in this area, with the limited quantities of finds being deposited in the features mainly as a result of soil improvement in the surrounding fields.

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in May 2017 by University of Leicester Archaeological Services on behalf of Broughton Hall Fencing on land at Mill Lane, Gilmorton, Leicestershire, in advance of proposed residential development. The fieldwork represented a second phase of investigation following an initial phase of archaeological fieldwork in January 2016 and arising from revisions to the original scheme in order to incorporate additional land. The archaeological evaluation provided limited evidence for medieval archaeological cultivation in the form of plough furrows. No other archaeological evidence was present.
