Patterson; N. Titov; B.F. Dear; H.D. Hadjistavropoulos;Agriculture producers are less likely to seek or to receive mental health services compared to the general population. Additional research is needed to identify effective and accessible mental health interventions for this underserved population. This study used a mixed-methods approach and open trial design to examine the acceptability and effectiveness of therapist-assisted internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) supplemented with an additional agricultural resource for clients from agricultural backgrounds receiving ICBT in routine care. Clients (n = 34) participated in an online, five-lesson course that provided psychoeducation and strategies for dealing with symptoms of anxiety and depression, with weekly therapist assistance. Clients also received a tailored resource (developed with input from those with an agricultural background) providing culturally specific information and case stories pertinent to agricultural communities. Intent-to-treat analyses showed that the ICBT program was effective in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms among the agricultural population. Large within-group pre-to-post-treatment Cohen's effect sizes of d = 1.14, 95 % CI [0.41, 1.86] and d = 1.15, 95 % CI [0.42, 1.87] were found for depression and anxiety, respectively and comparable to the same program offered to the general population. Clients also experienced reductions in perceived stress and significant improvements in resiliency from pre- to post-treatment. Semi-structured interviews conducted at post-treatment with the agricultural clients (n = 31) on their experiences with ICBT identified four main themes: perceived strengths of ICBT and the tailored resource, suggestions to improve service delivery for agriculture producers, clients experienced internal and external challenges to participating in ICBT, and the positive impact of the course reached beyond the client. Very high satisfaction rates were found. These results provide support for the acceptability and effectiveness of ICBT with a tailored resource offered in routine care among agriculture producers.

Hassan;Hatef Dastour; Quazi K. Hassan;Abstract Accurate prediction of fire spread is considered crucial for facilitating effective fire management, enabling proactive planning, and efficient allocation of resources. This study places its focus on wildfires in two regions of Alberta, Fort McMurray and Slave Lake, in Southwest Canada. For the simulation of wildfire spread, an adapted fire propagation model was employed, incorporating MODIS datasets such as land surface temperature, land cover, land use, and integrated climate data. The pixels were classified as burned or unburned in relation to the 2011 Slave Lake wildfire and the initial 16 days of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire, utilizing defined starting points and the aforementioned specified datasets. The simulation for the 2011 Slave Lake wildfire achieved an weighted average precision, recall, and f1-scores of 0.989, 0.986, and 0.987, respectively. Additionally, macro-averaged scores across these three phases were 0.735, 0.829, and 0.774 for precision, recall, and F1-scores, respectively. The simulation of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire introduced a phased analysis, dividing the initial 16 days into three distinct periods. This approach led to average precision, recall, and f1-scores of 0.958, 0.933, and 0.942 across these phases. Additionally, macro-averaged scores across these three phases were 0.681, 0.772, and 0.710 for precision, recall, and F1-scores, respectively. The strategy of segmenting simulations into phases may enhance adaptability to dynamic factors like weather conditions and firefighting strategies.

Asafo-Agyei; Abdul-Rahim Abdulai; The spread of ill information with or without the intention of deceiving or causing harm has negatively impacted agricultural development both in social and digital spaces. This has led to a lack of trust in adopting new technologies and practices, which has hindered the process of facilitating agricultural development. Although the study of agri-food misinformation is still in its early stages, this paper draws on a scoping review of existing literature and lessons learned from other fields, such as political science and public health, which have extensive experience in combating misinformation in social settings. The article explores how Farmer Field Schools (FFS), a popular participatory and community-based approach, can incorporate media literacy education and how a local agricultural information hub, platform approach and a relatively new approach called technology stewardship in agricultural extension can help those working in the agri-food industry combat misinformation.
